View Full Version : planning on building a enclosure, help?

hey guys.. wow.. its been a while since i came back on this site and posted... well i still got a pair of cresties.. and i want to build them a new enclosure..... now im thinking of what kind of wood can i NOT use? i have access to spruce, pine, oak, maple and polar.... is there any reason to pick one over the other? which ones can i NOT use?thanks

I think the best wood to use would be something thats not sappy. Then again I built my enclosure with pine. If you are going to put a good sealant on it though it shouldn't matter too much. I've heard to stay away from ceader for the whole scent thing.

I made mine that's 18x12x24 out of pine, 1/4" oak plywood 1/8" lexan and aluminum screen.

Just be sure you get it sealed well enough that the moisture of the substrate won't hurt it...or do what I should've done and make an acrylic bottom. But making the one I did, I've got some pretty awesome ideas to make one using only aluminum, lexan and screen....but that will have to wait until either a) something happens to my current setup or b) I get a few more cresties.
