Ok...this question goes out to all of you Blood experts...
I've been thoroughly enjoying my pretty little 3mo. old female Blood...she's happy and seemingly healthy...being my first Blood Python though, I'm unsure of the optimum appearance in regards to weight. I've read quite a bit about their tendency towards obesity so I've made an effort not to over-feed her. She's happily eating one large adult mouse every seven days. Now, I know she's a growing girl, should I be feeding her more? Right now I could describe her as looking "thick" (duh...she's a Blood!), but with SLIGHT definition of her backbone...is that ok? I wouldn't think she is supposed to look like an over-stuffed sausage....Any input would be appreciated :) Mel

If you have pics we could give you alot more help. But as baby's I would personally feed (depending on size) 1-2 adult mice every five days. But that is just IMO. HTH

Slight definition of the backbone is fine, actually most bloods have that.

As for feeding, depending on the buldge size, you could probably be feeding super jumbo mice or small rats the size of a big jumbo mouse. A pic would definetly help though. If you cant get a pic, approx. how long is she, and what is her girth?

But all sounds ok, "thick" but a "slight definition of backbone" sounds good to me. If you look at the snake, and look at the body and head, if the head looks way to small for the body, IMO the snake is fat. I know its like that in general with bloods, but I have seen some obese bloods(ed: The pro exotics one in the Biggest blood thread). I'll try to get some pics up of IMO good proportion on a blood.

Thanks for the info...I wish I could get a picture up but, alas...no camera. I ended up taking her into my favorite local exotics shop for visual feedback from their very knowledgeable staff...they said she looks fine but we're bumping her up to the jumbo mouse sized rats...Thanks again guys :)
