deffinetly frozen. You are risking its health feeding live as the prey item can fight back and possibly injure you snake.

I would think it's the same... there is less of a chance of parasites in frozen mice/rats, however...

Yup, less chance of parasites and easier to keep several of the exact size you want. I have not heard any studies that said vitamins and minerals deteriorate while they are frozen but I don't know for sure. I often wondered if adding vitamin suppliments to my rats feed would be healthier for my snakes.
Maybe some one here knows.

I do think when your rats and mice are healthier The snakes will
benefit from it.People in holland always say when you are eating frozen food there are less vitamines in it then when you eat fresh food.
I dont know if this counts for dead animals like rats and mice.
I hope sombody knows ??

After a couple minutes of research:

Freezing (-18 degrees C) foods stops all natural metabolic and bacterial processes, so there would be no affecting the nutrition value (or taste, apparently.)

Also it all depends on your freezer.

If you put a steak in a house freezer with crappy packaging....you better eat it soon because it won't be nearly as tasty for long. But if you use a deep freezer and package things properly, even seal them....a steak would stay FAR longer (over a year I'd say)

I keep my frozen rodents in a home deep freeze in my garage. Not everyone has access to these though, so I would just feed off frozen from your home freezer within 3-6 months.

They are rodents, but when it comes to freezing them, it's just like steak or beef.

Thanks Marisa!!!

I give my B.P life rats and mice because they eat the rats right away.So i don't have to be worry that the rat eats the snake.
I always watch the snake has eaten the rat.

cheers Ray.
