UTH Temp discrepency survey

I'd like to know, for people who use UTH for their pythons, what the discrepancy in the temp readings of the probe are for inside the enclosure (i.e. "where the snake is") versus if you stick the probe on the outside of the enclosure between the uth and the enclosure itself.

For example.... my inside reading is 95.3, but if I put the probe between the uth and the tank itself, it shoots up to a shocking 115.6. That just doesnt feel right to me. That little bitty bit of tupperware cant displace that much heat can it?

If you have never measured the discrepancy in your own setup, go do it and tell me what you get!!! pretty please! Gurus- am I trippin or am I temping my inside wrong. Python will move that damn probe sensor around sometimes.... so it doesnt stay firmly stuck down to the bottom, but more like sits on top of it (just like the snake would)

He is still being a brat and refusing to eat, too. But now im paranoid my temps are off, and am re-checking everything.

Air is a pretty good insulation actually. That accounts for much of the difference. the plastic disperses a fair bit of it as well. I'm not at all surprised at your readings... I get very similar results myself in my rack.

Thanks slannesh. Id love to know your actual numerical differences if you know them. It still seems hard to fathom the difference is that extreme. This is my first time keeping him in the rubbermaid, and I'm worried something isnt right. Any others?? Should I adhere the probe more firmly to the bottom of the tupperware for more "accurate" readings?

Just some quick and rough readings... but to get 90ish on the warm side of my rack the UTH's were all over 100 so at least a 10 degree F temp difference between probe on my Thermometer under the tubs on top of the UTH and the floor temp inside the tub

Just got my Thermostat today so i'll be playing with it a bit to see what the temps look like using that.

Someone here suggested to me to use one dummy rubbermaid to just contain the probe in the rack. That way the snake doesn't move it or crap on it, etc..; It works great.

What do you mean about dummy rubbermaid? If you mean that you are putting the probe inside of the dummy rubbermaid and then putting that on the hot side, then you are not getting the temp that your snake is feeling you are getting the temp in side of the dummy rubbermaid. But if you are just putting a rubbermaid over the probe w/o a lid then that should still work.
