I found this in my back yard the other day. It's in perfect condition, except for the missing skull.

a herptologist could identify it, but it would be very difficult for a layperson. that's a great find! in some ways, its better than finding a live one, cuz you get to keep it.

You could narrow it down a fair bit by listing any local species. Thats not 100% obviously but it is a start.

Neat find, it would be neat to make a mold of the vertebrae and make a bracelet out of it.

Really cool, but to identify I think even a herptologist might have a hard time without a full skeleton (skull and all). If it turns out to be say something like a species of rat snake, where you live that won't narrow things down a whole lot. Can you measure it though, that may give us and you a little bit more info to work on. I'm assuming from your info this was found in Tampa Florida (unless info isn't up to date)?

Really cool. Were there no ribs either? I would think if you dug around that same area you may find some. Once in a while you can actually find a piece of skin left as well. I found a nearly complete eastern diamondback skeleton late last year, and a complete gator skeleton last month.
