I was just commenting in another thread & had actually thought of making a gross eggs post before so... Heres some egg pics from last season when I was "blessed" with various types of molds & mildews. First some Corn eggs a couple "died" in the first week or so or were just fertile looking slugs to begin with anyhow, all eggs around the bad ones hatched healthy babies.

Same story basically with some Jungle Corns

Both classic examples of bad eggs don't make good eggs go bad. The next pic is of some VBB eggs. This was a totaly unexpected 2nd clutch as she hadn't been rebred. Due to no 2nd breedings she only had 7 out of 14 that even looked good to begin with. The top couple started to "die" & before long I had my very own "Chia pet" or whatever they call them. I don't know if they were all truly fertile to begin with, but they (the 7/14) all seemed fine up until near the end. A possible temp spike (?) may have been the isssue not sure wasn't monitored & I never cut the gross ones open, just tossed em. Anyhow the egg at the bottom of the pile hatched out healthy, Mark

Interesting, what's wrong with the red egg? Kinda looks like theres an vampire face on it lol

What are some ways to prevent mold from growing? I know baking soda is one but are there others?

What are some ways to prevent mold from growing?

Mold RARELY grows on GOOD eggs, so the best way to prevent mold, is to receive good eggs in the first place.

Fantastic series, Mark!

I know, last year was my first batch of eggs, and at the first sign of mold on one of the slugs, I went straight to the "End of the world/The sky is falling" scenario...

That should help calm some of us rookies down... LOL :p
