hey everyone, been a while since we've been on here.....anyways, have i got a weird little gecko.....we found this little bit of info kinda by a trial......we were feeding our beardie some apple sauce and our gecko looked kinda jealous.....so we offered some to him and look!

and this wasn't the first time he ate it either! he seems to like strawberry and bannana baby food, and apple sauce......is he just weird or do some leos actually like veggies? i mean he started out just licking it but lately, as you can tell from the pic, he's been actually biting the spoon trying to get as much as he can!

confused,

p.s. he is also the only leo we have that actually even tried the stuff. the others just walk away from it.

Yup, they like fruit:) In the wild they've been known to lap up rotting fruit. Try some plain yogurt mixed with the baby food, they think it's great. Leos are such funny little geckos. Cute pics:D

Hmm maybe I will try the baby food and apple sauce for some of my picky geckos, see if they'll eat it LOL

have i mentioned that he's put on about 10 grams since we started feeding it to him? lol! he's such a little fatty! we've decided to take him off of it for a bit because of the weight gain, but our beardie still gets some cuz he's a little underweight still....hopefully it keeps working!

Too much fruit will make them gain weight quickly. It's the fructose. Just like if all we ate was fruit we'd get fat too!:) The body stores it as fat if we don't burn it off. Same for the leos.

is it safe to keep like a bottle cap filled with that stuff in the habitat ? or should it only be served on a silver spoon to him ;) ?

so if you stop feeding it the fruit, will it lose weight?

So do you just give him as much as he will eat or do you only give a set amount.

Some of my leos eat fruit, some don't even want to be in the same room with it. :)
I find females are more adventurous with food tasting than males, but a few males will eat it as well. Once in a while when the Rhacs get their fruit mix I'll put a bit on a small lid for the leos. One of my albinos went nuts over it, she'd lick every last drop and look for more.
It's also good food for premature or undersized hatchlings, they seem to love it as well. Maybe it's just easier to eat than some squirmy bug, specially if you're a tiny gecko yourself, no need to hunt and overpower some bug that might fight back.

I believe I heard that it is not a good idea to put a dish of it in. It can get all over the geckos toes and stick them together. I'd say feed them a small amount, no more than a large spoonful at best IMO that sounds like alot for a leo. I have to go pick some up and try...I wonder if they are picky about the brand LOL!!!

My gecko looks like she wants to slap me when I offer babyfood of any flavour. She totally rejects it. I wish she would eat it though because I always have it on hand for my Golden Gecko

I wonder if my Tokays would be interested?? Question is can I get close enough to offer it without them spazing :D

Would the types of food suggested here be ok for a crested gecko too?
Thanks,
Davey

in response to dragon drops post, i have three femals that wont touch it, one male that wont touch it, and one that will, plus a mali that wont go near it, and a frilled that wont go near it, but my beardie does.....and the two that eat it live at my fiancee's house but the ones that don't live with me......i think it's more of an activity level thing than a sex thing.......the two that eat it are very lazy where as the ones that don't eat it are very active......just my two cents
