View Full Version : User names - why choose them?

BOAS_N_PYTHONS

EVERYONE:

Was thinking about this awhile back and I am bored tonight so I thought why not as you all.

Members and there user names. Alot of you use your real names or business name and alot use the name you do to refer to something.

I am BOAS_N_PYTHONS also known as Tony. Reason for my user name is my interest being boas and pythons and I collect both in my love for this hobby. Collection consists more of boas, but I do have select pythons as well.

Question for discussion is, how did you choose your user name for this forum?

Be great if all can give some input :D

Tony

HeatherRose
02-13-05, 11:03 PM
Mine is simply my name... I notice I get a lot of people calling me heatherrose on here like it's one word... my managers at work can't even get it right :p I guess it's too hard!

Oh well. It's my name, Heather Rose.

I just used my BP's names for a user name.

DragnDrop
02-13-05, 11:10 PM
I use DragnDrop on a computing forum. For some reason I had that name on the clipboard when I signed up here, and without even thinking, I pasted in when I registered. If I'd been wide awake at the time, I'd have been "1derfool" instead.

i guess im not as big of a simpsons fan as i though...

was it possibly the name of that big snake that ate milhouse?

Invictus
02-13-05, 11:47 PM
I've been using the name Invictus since before the Internet was in every single household.. Invictus is latin for 'unconquerable' or 'unvanquished'. My original inspiration for it came from my Scottish clan (Armstrong) motto "Invictus Maneo" - "I Remain Unvanquished". It is also something I draw upon for inspiration when times are tough.

Latazyo: Gotta ask ya man: Does everyone down there in Fargo really talk with that annoying accent as portrayed in the movie Fargo?

I lived in north carolina for a while and they would get me to say certain words and would just die laughing. Eg. I would say "about" and they would hear "aboot"! But what do they know, they thought I was from Canadia! LOL!

Slannesh
02-14-05, 12:43 AM
got mine from a miniature wargame I used to play called "Space marines" but on a lot of places early on the proper spelling "Slaanesh" was taken so I changed it slightly to "Slannesh" and the rest is pretty much history :) I've had others in the past but this is the longest running one, I've been using it for probably 10 years or so now.

02-14-05, 12:54 AM
mine stems from an episode of an evil cat my friend had, its what they originally wanted to call it... long story short the night i signed up to a forum we were talking about the cat and have used the name ever since, about 7 years :D

greenman1867
02-14-05, 08:48 AM
Well, along the same lines as Sapphire Moon, I chose Greenman for it's meaning, and 1867 (Year of Confederation) because I am a proud Canadian Army Guy.

Double J
02-14-05, 09:21 AM
My handle.... it actually arose from the first time I posted on queensnake. I sat in front of the computer for about an hour, and could not think of anything interesting or witty for my net handle. At that point, I simply became frustrated and thought about who my favorite old WWF wrestlers were. I had it narrowed down to Martel (as in Rick Martel), DiBiase (as in Ted DiBiase, the million dollar man), or Double J (as in Jeff Jarrett). It was truly sad that it came to that point... naming myself after a wrestler... but I had to come up with something, so I decided on Double J. When I came here (and to the other forums I frequent), I kept it the same to keep things simple, and so that other members who also post on these forums would realize that I am the same guy.

In hindsight, wish I had of thought of some sort of Tolkien reference. Oh well.

AstroZombie
02-14-05, 09:59 AM
It's a really really bad sci-fi movie from 1969....but it has zombies in it :D . It's also an old Misfits song from Walk Among Us.

adamofsound
02-14-05, 10:06 AM
adam is my first name, and sound refers to a double meaning one of my other (as in not herp related) interests. I am a big music appreciator and (very) amateur musician.
the other reference is to my hometown, Owen Sound Ontario, on Georgian Bay. I like the old english way of naming people by where they are from, so its kinda like a Knight, Adam of Sound.
its also the same internet handle I use everywhere, email, other sites. I like consistency.
cool thread tony!

varanus69
02-14-05, 10:47 AM
i picked mine years ago when the internet first came out..I was opening a hotmail account and wanted a decent name.. I came up with varanus69 cuz i love monitors ( varanus) and well what can i say i was a kid and 69 was my favorite number..........:) still is...I also have another user name on hear that is GNExotics which is the name i use for the reptile business i am working on but i just never got in the habbit of using it, been using varannus69 way to long. Maybe its time for me to shed my old skin and start new again.lol

ChokeOnSmoke
02-14-05, 11:21 AM
About 5 or 6 years ago I was making a hotmail account.. needed a name so I picked it. Ever since, I've used it whenever I need a name. No real reason... it rhymes and I've choked on smoke on several occasions I guess.
Humphrey Bogart was a famous old actor as well. I think he was in Casablanca.

mykee
02-14-05, 01:10 PM
Mykee came about when I got my very first e-mail account back in '97. My name is Michael, but ever since I could remember people have been calling me Mikey. Of course Mikey was taken, unless I wanted Mikey3489676439850475690346789678956546626, so having been taugh Phonetics in school (old school stuff) I s-o-u-n-d-e-d out my name and went with Mykee.

Invictus
02-14-05, 01:22 PM

I also picked mine years ago when the internet first came out - although this was '95 at my house and since a grade skool project we did some of my friends called me that - it seemed to fit. Its funny how many people don`t get it, and ask what it means - lol

Iceman

Well I might as well post here too :D

My name ICEMAN, I got from high school.

I used to go outside to have a cigarette on recess in the winter with no coat on, just in a t-shirt.

so people started calling me iceman, like everywhere. so eventually so many people were calling me iceman I got it tattoo'd on the back of my neck, it was my second tattoo.

and thats the tale of how i got the name iceman ;)

Artemis is the greek goddess of the hunt. FOr some reason, a lot of people think im a dude, but im not. I picked my name because my handles in almost every forum are from greek mythlogy. I enjoy my anonimity and Artemis works for me ;)

Actually I don't think dewnew and doonoo are pronounced the same. dewdew is kind of pronounced like d...u (only if you say it really fast) and doo doo is pronounced like do do as in dog doo.

Meatbeef..

Well, I was smoking a bunch of doobers with some buddies and in a spark of call downs and insults, I muttered "You ****ing uh, umm, MEATBEEF!" to one of my buddies. It got quite the laugh in our messed up state, so it stuck. I use it for everything now, emails, chats, blah blah blah.

Mcfreshdeli. If I were an old school hip hop dude that would be my street name. Actually comes from a pair of pants that I had that instead of zipper pockets they had wierd zip-lock style things. I always said I could store fresh deli meats in them.

My nick came from my favorite snake, a dumeril's boa called Lotus. Lotus because the pattern looked like the stylised lotus flower on the Shogun emblem (ancien japanese dynasty). Lotus was already taken in this forum, so I added the color of the symbol. It became Golden_Lotus.
