I was thinking about feeding my pythons some day old chicks, cause there cheaper then rats and easier to come by then rats. Anyone ever have any luck with feeding baby chicks? is there anything bad about feeding chicks then rats? I so please let me know .thanks

im pretty sure feeding chicks on ocasions is alright for pythons.. im not positive though.. but one thing i do know.. is that chicks sure are different when they come back out!! the snake doesnt digest it the same as rats or mice.. its very soft sometimes liquid almost.. and smells HORRIBLE! thats all i knwo about it though.. but like i said a few chicks every now and then wont do any harm, but i think most of the diet should be rats/mice..

Yeah they do smell more and the feces is softer. They also have a little more fat and a little less protien and not much in calcium to speak of.
Having said that they (in my opinion) are great for bulking up a meal. I'll give a snake a rat/mouse or two and somtimes a few chicks.
