what kinda frog

and saw a little frog when the guy who worked there stopped he said it was a dart frog:zi:
well i know that there is more then one kind but apperantly he did'nt:D
so my question is what kind is it:joker:
it was a pastey green colour with black eyeso>
about two to three inches long
and in my mind resembled an alien:ashes:
so if any one could help me out with a name and possibly so tips on keeping,feeding,housing it that would be greatly appreciated:w

All green? Sounds more like Mantell viridis to me. If there was black, then it could have been a Dendrobates ventrimaculatus, or maybe a Phyllobates bicolor . That's about all I could think of. Look those ones up (search engine) and compare the pics with what your eyes saw.

what was the price, that should be an indicator, darts are usually the higher end of the price spectrum. also if it was two to three inches then it was most likely not a dart, ive never seen one bigger than 2.5, and that was a massive female terribillis. ventrimaculatus reach a max of 3/4 inch at adults, so I doubt it was that. what was the shape of the body. Here is a Dendrobates auratus, was this it.

it was a p.terribillis i might have been off on the size it was at the back of a fogged up cage with no price as yet

i thought(do'nt know for a fact) that it was the food the frog ate in the wild that made it more toxic or toxic at all
that captive breed dart frogs were'nt toxic at all
oh well i'll go back today and see if he has more info thanks for the help

Is it Boomerangs? If so its a mint Phylobates terribilis.

Lance, Jeff,

you are right Lance, the latest theories (and there are severall studies being done currently, which will hopefully provide some definative answers) that it is the diet of wild frogs that leads to their toxicity. In the wild terribilis could be lethal if the toxin entered the bloodstream, it is very potent, however captive bred terribilis are completely harmless. Due to the situation in Columbia you wont have to worry about the terribillis being wild caught either, the only ones available will be captive bred. They are interesting frogs to keep, and are the largest of the known dart frogs. Very easy to care for too.

Lance, for a general introduction to dartfrog husbandry read the intro to dart frogs on my site. another site with some good info is pumilio.com, they can be kept like most other dart frogs, so a general caresheet should suffice. They have no specific requirements, outside of the normal requirements for darts. One thing though is that they seem to do better in groups than some other species.
