Hi
This is a little rant that I have to tell someone. It's 1 in the morining and I have no one else to tell.
I was suppose to go see a movie last night at 10:30. So me and my friend meet half way at a bus stop and we chit chated about stuff. But now its been 10mins.
We spotted a golden retriever, that was lost. But we thought someone had let it out of the house or something so we let him be. But 5 mins past by and the dog is now further down the street. Then I started saying to myself "He's lost we should go get him".
But by now the dog is on the road...now its 9:30, dark and barly any cars...the dog is on the road and my friend and I saw a SUV truck heading towards him. We intentionally thought the guy would stop and let the dog pass by or something...
We guessed wrong...he speed up and ran right into the dog, the dog was hit hard and it went under both the front and back wheel(imagine a big cardboard box being run over)...as he drove off we were shocked we were unable to get the license plat number. Were so upset and angry that we started to yelling at the guy as he drove by. Both my friend and I saw the side of his face. This guy was a sick person.
We quickly ran towards the dog as it was crying and screaming for help. Once we got there he kept quite. A lady and a guy stopped the car and got out to see what has happened. The lady was a vet in guelph and was to far to drive to her area for help. So the guy called the humane society of Toronto but was put on hold. The lady(vet) said that the dog was dying and needed help fast...
The dogs eye was beginning to shut and blood was comming on the side of the mouth. He couldnt move anything and was helpless.
So he hung up and they decicded to drive them there. We also had a another guy and a lady stop to help carry the dog inside the car.
Now there are some sick people out there and this is one of them. If you see any kind of animal please stop, have a heart. It could have been a kids best friend that you just killed. I wish to find this guy who did this to the poor dog...We missed our bus and caught the next one. It was the first time I have witnessed such a horrific scene in my life and wish to never see it again. I am not sure if the dog has made it or not and I hope it did.
But I was glad that the lady had stopped and it just so happened she was a vet. Also thanks to the couple that helped place the dog in the car, because I don't know what I would have done if none of these people has stopped.
Sorry for my ranting but I needed to tell someone.
Thanks for reading...

OMG!! that is horrible! I would like to run that guy over! i can't believe what some people will do to animals! I hope the dog made it but by the sounds of it, it doesn't look hopeful:( It just makes me want to cry. You did a good thing.....thank you for being one of the good ones:)

That's absolutely awful. I'm sorry you had to witness something so horrible. I feel really bad for the dog and even worse for the little kid that will probably never see his best friend again. Some people are disgusting. I'm a strong believer of karma, and I truely wish instant karma upon this scumbag.

That's disgusting if I had anything at all I would have threw at the truck as it passed just hoping he'd stop so I can give him a lil piece of what he gave that poor dog, scum bag. But Hump is right karma is against this prick. I've seen people intentionally hit squirells, nothing I could do but once it was on my road and heading towards the end (it's a short road that end at a huge campsite which is where I figure he was coming from) sure enough he was going to the camp site and I stopped him at the front gate but Encon got to me before I could do anything but the guy claimed it was an accident, obviously not though when you see them speed up and swurve to hit it :( scum bags

That is very saddening and very good of you and the rest who tried to help an animal in need, especially one injured by a person who has no respect for animals.
On a related issue.
Back in the fall of 2003. I saw something that I did not think would happen let alone so close to me (being a serious animal lover). I was with some friends in a car wash where we were washing our cars in car ports (not automatic types). We were having fun and enjoy the time there washing our cars at around 11pm at this 24 hour carwash. Then a large pick up truck came in as well and decided to take the farthest car port along the wall. We thought nothing of it as its anyone choice which port you want to wash your car.
After some time I noticed he turned on the truck and backed up a bit to show the tail section past the curtain. Again thought nothing of it. The all of a sudden saw 3 dogs running around the car wash area. I believe a sheapard, a sheapard cross, and a rottweiler. The were super friendly running into each post wagging tails. Then the owner called them and as loyal pets they ran back to him. Again thought nothing of it. While there were 6 of us washing our cars and 2 taxi' s there was alot of noise from that alone but I then heard something not normal in a car wash. Yelping or crying out loud like dogs do if you step on there toes by accident. So I heard these noises and saw no dogs or water being sprayed on that truck since the noise was coming from that area. Me and 2 friends decided to check this out.
Well I was disgusted, angry, and ready for a fight. We 3 saw these dogs leashed up to the wall where u put your floor mats to wash them. These dogs were getting a wash instead. But this ain' t how simple low pressure water hose its high volume high pressure water guns that can easily knock ice off your cars let alone simple dirt. These dogs were being turtored with this high pressure at 4-5 feet away from them.
We yelled at the owner and he got jumpy, while a friend ran to get our cells to call the police he got his dogs loose, we got affraid a bit because this helping scene could turn into a dog attack on us. But he ran into his truck and got 2 dogs in as well. Was to affraid of the situation that he bolted out of there and left the rottie behind. We got his plate and the police and humaine society was there as well for the dog.
Even after all that pain the dogs were in, they still listened to the owner and with tails wagging they jumped into the truck. Talk about a man' s best friend even after torture.
I do not know what the police did with the information we gave them. But I hope they looked into it and saved the other 2 dogs.
Sorry this is my rant but since I saw your dog story I did not want to make to threads on dog issues.

Out in Manitoba there are tons of snakes in my area on the roads in breedign season as the snakes make there way out and in to the dens, and I see people run the snakes over on purpose lots, you let the wildlife know and they get a hefty fine, serves them right.

That is horrible... Some people need to be beat...... makes me very angry!!!!!
Makes me remember... back probably 5-6 years ago when I was living in Kelowna.... I was driving with a friend one night and we came across a lab that had been hit... was right in the middle of the road... could not be mistaken.... I could NOT BELEIVE how many people just kept on driving!!!! And I know this cause I was stuck at a light with a good ten people in front of me before we arrived were the dog was.... then when we pulled over to tend to the dog.... so many people just kept on driving by... not one person offered any help, when it was obvious somthing was wrong, as I had the lane blocked off with my truck..... It was horrible to see a helpless animal with no one to help it.... It was fairly late, and did not know who to call, so I just called 911... they didn't take me very seriously, maybe because it was just a "dog" right..... you'd be surprised how iggnorant the dispacther was.... Finally a cop came to where we were with the dog.. we had covered him up with a blanket, and just sat there petting him.. it was all I could do to comfort the animal... so my buddy and I put the dog in the back of the cops car, and the officer waisted no time... lights even, and took the dog to an 24 animal hospital....... Well about a month later coquincidently (sp) enough I had run into the same officer outside the bar strip one night... and I was pretty sure of the answer, but had to ask any ways... the lab never made it...... made me very upset, at the iggnorance of people now a days.... if I seen the person who hit the dog and kept going I would have prob followed them until they got out of their car and beat the crap out of them.... I'm very Tempermental:mad:...... lol
sorry for going on for so long... just reading this post made me remember about that sad experience :(,so I though I'd share it also...

These are horrible stories! Its sad to see such ignorant B@$T@RDS in this world!
Its good to see you all did the right thing!
Even though Im just shy of 15, I would do anything im my power to screw up anyone that did such a horrid thing.
Such sick people in our world. I've seen snakes that were right in the middle of the road or on the far shoulder, places where you DONT drive, and they are smushed. How sick can you get?
Im sure the animals appreciated all of your efforts!

You know what's even more twisted?
It is illegal to stop, or swerve to avoid a small animal such as a dog, cat, raccoon, squirrel, etc. What you are "supposed" to do is continue driving. Ugh...

so what if there was a family of deer? Do you keep driving then? lol I know your just the messenger.

It just proves that the person driving the truck was an idiot, thats all, anyone who would do that to a poor dog, let alone any animal is a loser, I will not continue, because I am a dog lover and I don't want to post something to get me banned.

This reminds me of a trip I took to my first Red Deer Show, years back. I decided to make this trip by leaving late a night and making the opening hour at the show. I took off around 9pm and was on the highway for almost 4 hours before reaching the city / town of Brandon. Anyone that does this drive and knows the area knows there is a big dip in the road from driving on a somewhat flat highway before reaching Brandon.
Being super dark just before seeing the city lights I came up on this dip in the road. Then things got really dark and I put on my high beans on the car. I was freaked out because those lights saved me and a heard of deer. Literally they swarmed the full highways thinking a group of 20 or so. I only saw glowing eyes everywhere. So I slowed down and saw this group up close and personal. Started honking creeping through the group, breaking them up and getting them off the road. Not all were being cooperative. But I tried enough light and horn alarms as well and my car alarm panic siren to spook them off the road.
I was concerned about seeing them all over the road and some sitting down as well, talk about a safety issue for them. There was another reason as well to make all this noise and lights. I was driving a bit fast past some truckers and passed them 5 - 10 minutes ago and though while in this situation with the deer would the truckers stop in time. So I stayed near the heard with my panic emergency lights on and blowing the horn to get the truckers to notice caution in this area.
All in all they all slowed down and we all went on our way knowing that heard moved into the forrest area away from the road.
Sorry was hoping to tell this story much shorter :D

That's absolutely sick. I honestly do not understand how people can work that way. How someone can purposely want to inflict pain on an innocent animal :(
It sure is awful... but not hard to believe...
I mean look what people do to other people...
Murder, child abuse, rape, torture... Uggg...

2 minutes, I would like 2 minutes with any of those twisted SOB's. Give them a taste of what pain feels like. Nothing and I mean nothing in this world makes me rage more than people who hurt Dogs ( I have 2 Great Danes and a Rescue Grey Hound).
Wow, time to change my sig :(
I am sorry you had to see that but I am glad you did your best to help. Remember that person will pay dearly for the pain he has caused, hopefully 3 fold.

This past semester (september - january) I took a co op course (like volunteering but school credits are involved) at the Ontario Veterenary College, in guelph. I cant count the number of dogs and cats that I saw come in because they were hit by a car. There are just too many people that can avoid a situation with just a gentle tap of the breaks and a controled swerve. Im 16 and in drivers training and they teach you that you swerve to save the most amout of lives, if there is a way to avoid a small animal without putting yourself, ur passengers, and others in danger then you should steer away from the animal, honking works well too.
Back at the animal hospital I had the oppertunity to help bring in a deer that was hit by a car, It was horrible. Deer are just the right height that the bumper takes out there legs and the body goes directly into the windsheild. This case the driver was ok but we had to put the deer down, it was one of my hardest days at the co op.
Thanks

I have, unfortunately, managed to hit three dogs in my 4 1/2 years of driving. 1st was on a state highway going around a curve at dusk, chocolate lab. 2nd was on a state highway at night. 3rd was also on a state highway at night (this dog actually hit me really, it ran across my lane and into the other in front of a semi and then decided my lane was better and ran into my driver's side door).
Anyway, not once did I fail to make an attempt to contact an owner or find the dog myself. The first one I stopped a ways up and walked back to find the dog, but it was not there so I walked to a couple of houses, no answers. The 2nd I drove around the block a couple of times to find it, no dog and the third the dog actually got up and ran away as I think it was just a bit dazed. I did go to someones house, but it was dark and they refused to answer the door. How do I know they refused? Well, they looked at me through a crack of an interior door and then didn't answer. :o)
I personally find it rather upsetting hitting anything and can't imagine why some people would go out of their way to inflict pain upon both animals and other people. There is, in many cases, a person attached to that animal. It's a sad state of affairs when people have to resort to inflicting pain on others to pleasure themselves.

Poor Meow- sorry you had to go through that. Kinda makes you wish we could have vigilante law, whip our semi automatics out of our purses, and hand out some justice. I hope the dog made it, too.
