My boyfriend and I went looking for leos in the local pet stores.

The one in the mall had them for $69.99. They were bulky and healthy looking.

The ones in the bigger store (the local chain store) were $79.99. They were about 3-4" long and were THIN. Their tails were very thin, as well as their bodies. I wouldn't say there were boney, but they were very thin. I'm not sure if it's just their size or if they are sick or whatever. One of them ate 5 wax worms while we were there... so at least 1 of them was eating.

I'm not sure what to think about them. Are the prices normal/high/low? There were some blizzards and fat tails and the were priced over $100.... about $125+ I believe. They looked quite healthy, but are definately not in my price range.

I'm wondering if there are any breeders around here? I'm in Dartmouth, NS and can travel a little way or meet halfway if need be... I'm just looking for info right now though. I would like to get something that looks a little different than the typical ones that you find in a pet store, although they are very nice also.

If you guys can give me any info that would be great.

Thanks:)

PS: My boyfriend got a crested gecko from Neil Meister. I know some of you know him also.... do you happen to know if he breeds or has leos?

I am betting that you can get geckos flown in, but cost may factor in. Sorry I do not know of any NS breeders myself, but thats not to say there are non :) Maybe contact your local/provincial reptile association for help on locating a local breeder?? Just an idea.

I just finished writing an e-mail to Neil Meister asking if he or someone he knows breeds them.

I much prefer breeders over pet stores for ANY animal, not just herps so i'm hoping to find someone.

I wouldn't mind having one flown in if it came down to that... but the price plays a big factor in that for me also.

I've been looking at prices of flying geckos in, and the cheapest I have seen is $97. That was from Ontario. So, you're lookin at paying the price of another gecko! I assume you went to ******. When I went to ******, their leopards and fattails didn't look good at all, but I was at the PU in Burnside last weekend, and their animals looked good and well taken care of, but you're right, their prices are high. Have you been to Ruffins in Bedford? Their lizards are always in great shape when I'm in, the people are friendly and seem quite knowledgeable, and their prices are better. I don't hesitate to buy from them.

Neil was going to be my suggestion.
Good Luck,

Yes, I meant PU but I wasn't sure if we were allowed to mention names on this forum. It was in Burnside where I saw the very thin leos. I was at the one in Sackville not too long ago and I didn't like their conditions either. I haven't been to Ruffins since my BF got his crested and we were looking for Sticky Tongues Farms Miner-All. I wasn't looking for a leo then so I didn't take notice of their prices or if they even had them. They are a really good pet store. I love the conditions that they keep their animals in. I should call them for a price and if I like what they tell me then I may drive over to check out the look of them.

I'm hoping that Neil has something good to tell me when he writes me back. It makes me nuts when i'm waiting to hear back from someone when i'm excited. LOL I know if anyone can help me it should be him.

I've heard back from Neil. He's got a hi-yellow hatchling available right now that I just can't turn down!

I can't wait!

WOO HOO!

Well, that high yellow hatchling sounds good. Just for reference, I will soon be getting my first eggs of the season. I will be hatching them, the babies will be all female and of high yellow, and reduced spot genetics. If your ever interested let me know.
email is emds@ns.sympatico.ca
