Hi, my name is Grace. In case you dont know, im 14 years old. I have been interested in snakes for a while, but now i am actually getting one. I need help deciding which kind to get. I have a whole room (an old guestroom) for it, and i havent bought a cage or anything yet. I think i want a small boa, but i heard that they grow a lot bigger than i can handle. Please send some suggestions!!!

the most popular beginner snake is the corn snake; it was one of my first. they are great because they are very colorful, easy to care for and hardy. they are also almost always docile and easy to handle as adults, and they don't get too big. other ratsnakes, as well kingsnakes and milksnakes, are also generally good beginner snakes, for the same reasons. if you are really interested in getting a boa, you might try a kenyan sand boa. they stay small and are easy to take care of, and docile. the only real downside is that they spend a lot of their time hiding. also, small pythons in the genus antaresia, such as the spotted and children's pythons, are good starters.

Corn snakes are awesome, they get big enough to be like a real snake, but not too big to handle for you. Check the Cornsnake forums here http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=31 I don't think you will ever regret starting with a Corn. Then if you do decide you love snakes and want another you can move up to a male Boa. Bigger than a Corn, but also very calm and eay to handle (also my personal favorite snake :D ).
Anyways you have a good start, asking questions here and doing ALOT of reading and research.

Welcome to the site. I would suggest you putter around the site and ask some questions to determine what snake would be best for you.
