Hi,

I purchased a Lampropeltis Getulus Nigritus last sunday. As far as i am aware she hasn't had much rest since i got here. She's active when i wake up in the morning and when i get home from work. I was hoping she would calm down at night and during the day. However now that i am home all day since it's saturday i see no calming down.

I've contacted the breeder a few days ago about this and explained how i kept her. He only advised lowering the temperature a bit.

She has a viv slighty longer then she is, with lot's of hiding places in both the cool and warm end. temps are now about 25 degrees celcius in the cold side and a few degrees celcius warmer in the warm eara. I can't see wich temp gradient she prefers and she's crawling to both sides equally. I use repti bark as bedding and humidity is about 50%

She's pretty calm to me. I got her out for a few minutes twice and she's quite relaxed. Also when i go to the viv to check up upon her she's curious and comes up to the glass.

Besids this snake i have 5 corn snakes. Naturally there housed in seperate vivs. There not in sight of each other but probably in smell. All the vivs are very clean though.

Any help would be much appreaciated. I really think she's exausting herself over something i am doing wrong. From the looks of it she's healthy. No (visible) parasites of problems with mouth/scales. She did spent a long time outside in the cold since it took me quite a while longer then expected getting home. But like i said, i see no clear signs of any illness. But she's my first non-corn and i can find *very* little information about this snake on the net. Most information i got directly from the breeder

You shouldn't handle her for a few weeks after you get the snake, let her adjust to her new home. Then you can start to handle her for 5 mins twice a week. If she is really skittish get a towel and bring her out when she is under the towel, she will get used to your smell and won't be as frightened.

She isn't skittish at all. Right now i'm more worried she appears to be awake and moving 24/7

She is stil checking out her new container thats all, maybe a few more, different hides will stop here. try a few paper towel tubes, or jello boxes.

I'd say at first was busy checking out the new pad & now hunting possibly? When was the last feeding etc.? Hungry snakes are usually more attentive/active then "full" ones. If the husbandry is OK (sounds like it is) & the snake appears & acts healthy (sounds OK) no worries. An active snake is a good thing, most complain that all theirs do is hide. Kings are more interesting than Corns usually anyway IMO Mark

There lot's of hiding places in the viv so i know that's probably not the problem. She's moving in-and out of them.

She might be hungry. I forgot to ask the breeder when he last fed her. Do you think i should just give her a pinkie? I'm kinnda scared she'll regurg if she's stressed right now instead of hunting.

Oke i just fed her a pinkie. I'm really *really* glad the breeder adviced me to use thongs. And here i was fearing she's having troubles switching from live to f/t. She gobbled it down with easy.

No kings definately aren't corns :D

Now i hope she'll take a rest and digest the pinkie.

She was asleep this morning but after a while she was active as ever. Perhaps the meal was to small. I give her 2 pinkies in a few days.
