Well...Let me first say I have had reptiles(boas, kingsnakes, corns, montiors.) I also have inverts too. I have recently decided I want to get one of the big boys. Not just off the fact that they are big. But I do want I new chanllenge and I do want observe some of natures biggest animals in my own home.

I know each big python as far as color and such goes are cool and unique in there own way. I personally like the albino's. But alot of them are too expensive of a budget and I cant afford one till I get out of school. Anyways to get to my point. What do you guys reccomend as someones first BIG snake. The pros and cons of each.

I personally like the retics, they appeal to me more than rocks or burms. Not because they get bigger than the other 2, its just there, patterns and the eyes. The eyes are killer man. I guess its based on personal prefernce but what do you guys think of each one. Because I know there unique in there own way.

A long time ago, when herp-hobby was just starting, EVERYBODY would tell you that retics were more agressive than burms. Today, we know that it depends on the individual, and any retic can get just as docile as any burm.

Another mistake is to think that because retics get so big, they will grow beyond your control faster than burms. In fact, burms get twice as bulky in the first 2 or 3 years (only then a retic can start to catch up, even if longer).

If you like retics, go with one. But make sure it's a small captive born specimen.

You said that your budget is a concern until you are out of school...just remember that with owning a larger snake...you are going to have to feed it larger and more expensive prey.

I just have to mention even though I hate it when people do it to me . Remember having a large snake can make it harder to find a house or appartment but I am sure that you already know all about that. Personaly if I were you I would go with a albino male burm or a normal . Albino burms are not overly expensive either . Good luck with what ever snake you get .

Well, personally I got an Afrock as my first giant, but just get whatever you want. As males they all basically get around 12-14'...not really a big size difference. ;)

"Albino Burmese" are quite cheap, and many maintain that nice yellow on white color for their whole lives. I think its only like 200 bux
