Newb here. My wife and I were at a local pet store last weekend b/c she wanted to look at frogs. I ended up looking through the snake section. To make a long story less long, I ended up falling in love with a Savu.

My wife has kept a ball python before, so I guess as a snake-rearing team we are not toally clueless. Our little Sophie can be a bit cranky when we get her out of the tank, but once she's out she is very calm and friendly. So far things seem to be going well. We picked her up on Sunday and fed her a F/T crawly last night. We put her in an empty rubbermaid bin (her new "dining room') while thawing the mouse. She grabbed it within maybe 10 seconds of teasing, so I guess that means she's a good feeder.

Anyway, she's about 25" right now, and has a beautiful pinkish/orangish speckled color. Too bad she burrows all the time, so you hardly ever see her unless she's out being handled! I'll try to get some pics soon.

So yeah, just wanted to say hi. I've been reading lots of helpful posts here, and it seems like a good forum community. And of course, any specific advice would be welcome.

Congradulations, they are wicked pythons! I would suggest you dont handle him for at least 2 weeks to give him some time to settle in.

Pics? I don't think I have ever seen one of those, don't hold back the goods! We all love the pics :D

And congrats for sure, a new snake is always a great snake (as long as the wife says so anyways )

If they're anything like Macklot's (which I guess they are) then you've got an awesome snake there. I've found, with my Macks at least, that they are good feeders, relatively stress-proof and just generally a fun, easy snake to keep. My Macks were rather snappy when I first got them as well but have calmed down considerably in the last 6 months. I'd love to see some pics of your new snake / enclosure.

Good Luck,
Cam
