I don't recall the kind of monitor this was - I'm not really into varanids, though this guy was gorgeous.

That face is immistakable - you have got to love komodos.

I'd say it appears average size looking at the pics - how long did it look to you in person???

Nice pics of nice komodos - I believe that is a female, and they are offspring of the original Naga and ? at Cincinati Zoo some years ago...wonderful animals, and actually quite 'nice' as far as komodos go....

I am quite fond of the komodos that are in captivity in the US... Of all the zoos I've been to that have them, all appear to be descendents from the Flores population, as all of the captive komodos that I've seen have the rich, and brilliant splashes of yellow, orange and lime greens.. Much more colorful than the ones we typically see on the tv documentaries...

When I lived in Tampa a few years ago, I used to frequent Busch Gardens, as well as Lowry Park zoo, as they both have gorgeous komodos. If I remember correctly, Busch gardens has a female(what mark said) and Lowry Park's got a male.. a real colorful one at that...

Thanks for showing the pics... I am excited, as a zoo in NJ will be getting a komodo(or two?) once their new reptile house is completed next year.. As of right now, the closest komodos to anybody in the northeast is the ones at the National Zoo in DC... WHich is quite a trek from here...

But then again, I've got the bronx zoo within 45 minutes of my house, which sure comes in handy...
