I can't remember what kind of rattler this was. I'm no venomous expert!

This was one of a pair of mojave rattlers. The other one was hiding.

These were taken at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay.

Very nice pics! They must have some pretty clean glass at Busch Gardens; it looks like there's nothing separating you from the snake.

A friend of mine was envenomated by a Mojave in the summer of 2003 while doing regular maintenance at his venom extraction facility. His hand merely grazed the wire top of one of the young Mojave's enclosures and he ended up getting nicked by a fang (wasn't even a puncture wound really). He started going into respiratory distress and it was pretty bad for a bit. He checked himself out of the hospital the next day, AMA, and had a massively swollen arm.

Quite an experience for him I'm sure, but he's been envenomated more than a few times before. It was probably his antivenin that saved his life...

Cheers,
Ryan

Wow. It's amazing how powerful some of these animals are.

The top rattler is one of two Crotalus you can find around Florida, an Eastern Diamondback. Nice pics.
