View Full Version : Censorship on ssnakess.com

I've been quiet about alot of things I've seen on here for months, but in the last 3 or so months this site has gotten really bad with various groups of people attacking others and censoring things that in the past have been completely acceptable.

I remember others posting about very similar things happening to them, about suspicious fires that destroyed their collections, about break ins at their places, and other things herp related and not.

Yet when someone who has been shown to POSSIBLY lie about herps in his collection, or pictures or posts about something that the "higher ups" don't like, their posts are closed, or removed from regular members viewing.

The latest example of this is in the thread by BOAS N PYTHONS.

I really have no idea why ANYONE on ssnakess.com would have ANY idea why ANYTHING happened to you. In fact, I don't like the idea of this post insinuating that. If it were not, there is no other reason to post it here.

The thought is simply ludicris.

Nothing personal. This just does NOT belong here for any reason at all.

CLOSED

I know of a few reasons why I personally would post something on here if I was in their situation.

a) I would post on here because everyone on here has seen SOME of the collection they have and there has to be someone on here that would think about stealing herps instead of buying them. Look at the herps that "go missing" from the expos for example. In a group this large, there have to be a few bad apples.

b) I'd post because I'd consider some of the people no here friends and would like them to know what's going on.

c) Perhaps the culprit IS a member or lurker here and someone else heard something suspicious from them and would like to report it.

The fact remains that certain mods are now censoring things that are perfectly fine for "good standing", aka part of the individual mod's little group of friends, members to post.

If you are going to start censoring stuff like this, censor it all.. put in the TOS something like "NO PERSONAL ISSUES, HERP BREEDING, RAISING, CARE, ETC ONLY."

Hi ReneeB,
Though I don't always agree with what is censored and what is not, I think Marisa made the right choice with the particular thread in question. The thread was starting to take a bad turn. Whether or not Tony is actually hurt (to be honest, I had by suspicions when I first read it) needn't be the topic of that post, it's in bad taste. The thread has not been removed or altered in any way, just closed to prevent any more useless posts.
People can still read what happened and are still able to contact Tony's fiancée if they have any information.
Cheers,
Ryan

I don't consider myself to be part of any group and to be perfectly honest I doubt anyone on this forum barely knows me at all. But with that I don't see this as censorship at all, the whole situation is very fishy to me, it's all very coincidental. Having read through all of the information that has come out about that specific person I find it very convenient that something like this happened just after that last series of events happened. It seemed to me like he was positioning himself for some sympathy and support from the forum

I personally think the Mod team on this forum does a very good job, it isn't like they deleted the post. The information was presented, a few people had a chance to respond, from the way the thread was going it looked like it was turning to end up the same way allot of Tony's threads have so they locked it. For them to censor the post they would have had to delete it completely. Just locking it still gives everyone a chance to read it and respond in PM as necessary, I see nothing wrong with the actions taken by the Mod team in regards to that thread.

Well, let's show that we're NOT taking sides here.. Renee, I know you personally have met you a couple times, but either way, im CLOSING this thread as it's NOT open for disscussion.. Maybe if you READ the replies that were in that thread you would have seen why Marisa closed it.. If she didn't I would have, so it makes no difference..

In the future, if you have a problem with a decision the MODs have made, feel free to pm them and talk to them about it personally rather then bring it up in public..
