View Full Version : Denver sick?

The last few days, Denver has been sleeping differently during the day. He sleeps now with his "eyelids" (I know they aren't really eye lids, but the parts with the "eyelashes" over the eyes) half closed. He has never slept like that before. He gets up at night and hunts. We saw him take down a big cricket last night covered with Herpvite Calc and D3. As of this morning his babyfood isn't touched, although he's always been fusy about what he'll eat. His tank stays between 75-78 and is misted at least 3 times a day (it's very dry here). Any ideas? Have you seen this before? I've attached a pic but it's not really easy to se what I mean. I didn't want to disturb him to get a closer shot, or he would open his eyes back up.

Sleeping cresties 'suck' their eyes in, making the 'eyelashes' flop down a bit. That's the only way I can tell if they're sleeping or awake. If he's doing that, don't worry, it's perfectly normal. Since he's eating crickets, he might not want the fruit, so don't worry about that either. Sometimes they eat only one thing, other times they eat everything and anything, just keep the food coming. It's perfectly normal, designed to drive us crazy.

if he is hunting an active during the night, he probably is fine, just completely relaxed when sleeping. but you would know best with your instincts from observing him. i can always tell with mine when something doesn't seem right from their usual habits. one thing i have learned from observing is that they all are different in ways they sleep, eat and hunt. my adult female actually looks dead sometimes while sleeping and scared me to death the first time i saw her that way. she likes to lay on her side at the bottom with belly against the glass and her hind leg thrown out totally relaxed and out in the open. the first time i saw it, she was near to shedding so she was very pale. i thought she was gone for sure and i still don't like it when she sleeps that way. as for my other cresties, i have three that almost always sleep up high in the greenery in the same place/position and one that sleeps "around" but always under cover.

I didn't really think anything was wrong, because when he's awake he seems normal, I had just never seen him sleep like that before! I just didn't want to ignore it without getting a second opinion. Maybe he finally feels comfortable enough with us to not feel the need to watch us intently when we come around. Thanks!
