I got a breeder rat.. she just started breeding not long ago... she had her first batch of baby's december 26th(around there).. and she had 19 baby's.. i was pretty amazed and was under the assumtion the next batch would have even more baby's.. but today she had a new batch... and she only had 12 baby's.. i just thought that the 2nd batch would have more baby's then the first one.. does anybody know if that is an indication of a possible illness? or is it just the way it happens sometimes?

Over the course of her breeding "career", you can expect her litter sizes to taper off. My guess would be that she just had a HUGE litter the first time and 12-15 is more what you can expect from her in the future. :)
