Looks great so far :)

Though the placement of your shelves makes me wonder a bit... will there be branches or something else to climb on to get up there?

Now I have no idea how well the grout will hold once it's dry but have you though about how much force it might take to break one of the shelves off? I know from years of miniature wargaming that gluing unlike materials isn't often a really great bond. I'm assuming that the glue is just to hold it in place while the grout dries but I have no idea how brittle grout is in the first place although in a decently thick layer i'd imagine it has to be pretty resilient.

Looking forward to seeing this project done!

I've never glued anything for the most part except with paste back in grade school :) but wont the high amounts of heat beardeds require melt the glue? Looks really nice though.

I would make and L shaped brace out of the stryo to hold the shelves. Also are you using tile grout or mortar? Mortar is stronger then tile grout and just as easy to work with.

Looks good thus far

just use an acrylic clear coat(meant for wood) over the mortar

most glue wont melt by the way beanersmysav, once air hits it it starts to cure like cement.. and it will all be sealed off anyways.. thisis how i read to do it.. and it looks really good.. i may have to modify things slightly but well see..

thats an idea.. thanks ill check into it..

i just went out and did a weight test... i put a brick and a sledge hammer head on the farthest point away from the glue.. the outside lip and it held up without a prob.. the total weight was 10 lbs ( well 9.87) but ya.. i figure thats planty strong and with the added strength of mortar or grout it should be fine...

Good to know Peterm. I'm sure that's plenty hard enough to hold a couple of beardies then :)

But i'm definitely going to use the technique to do some backdrops for my cresties... all those years doing wargaming dioramas are gonna pay off big time :)
