ATB cages

Just curious on what everyone used for there ATB's in the ways of custom built units...pics,tips and measurements etc would be helpful, planning to have a custom built one for when my ATB comes home (not likely, but ill try and get it done in time)

We added locks on the front of the cage and put in weather striping to hold in the humidty.

hmm i think a 40 gallon tall would be large enough for a full grown ATB..ive got my2 year old ATB in a 25 gallon tall...its perfect for him!..Connor

Mine are in rubbermaids. I'll soon be building a rubbermaid rack for them. I say rubbermaid but the rack will actually hold large Sterilites.

Check these out. They are a new product from Exo-terra...... front opening glass terrariums. For what they are, the prices are rather inexpensive. I must say, they are incredibly well built, and look amazing. I am purchasing three of the smaller sizes on Thursday for some of my day geckos. Here is a link to the exo-terra site.. check them out. I think the 18x18x24 inches high would work rather nicely for an amazon.. what do the rest of you think? And no need to worry.. YOU CAN remove the rock background.... it is only a foam insert :D

problem is the top is screen so you cant keep the humidity up and second of all the background is attached & will collect mold.

I wouldnt rec. those for atb's or any other arboreal species

The background *is* removeable. It simply slides out from the top.

Why do you think the background would collect mold? Why would it be any more prone to this than the walls of a rubbermaid... or the sides of a melamine enclosure? Personally... I would take the foam insert out myself... and just have the bare glass for the background. That is an option with these tanks of course.

Plus.. I breed poison dart frogs... and they require *far more* continuous humidity than ATBs. I actually use 10 and 20 gallon tanks with screen tops for the most part... I simply cover the screen with saran wrap, plexi, or glass (I employ all three methods at the moment, and all work well). Darts need 90% plus humidity continuously... and what I have described has done the trick for years, and is used by many other dart frog keepers. So screen tops can be dealt with in terms of keeping humidity in, while still looking nice.

I think these would be more functional and look a hell of a lot better than a rubbermaid..... but that's just my opinion. Front opening tanks make life much easier from my experience.

also they arent any good for ATB's because the top has a plastic bar across it and a light would just melt that away like butter...would be ok for a leaf tail or something that doesn't need to much heat but not a snake...Connor

My question is "Is it large enough?" I think the largest is 24wx18dx24h. Is this large enough for a ATB?
