Hi I just got my new snake home and its my first one ever. I forgot to ask the pet store guy a question:

Do I need to put any supplements in the water to decontaminate etc. I have calcimize, should I put that in?

I have never used anything in any of the water for my snakes, and they are thriving just fine. But I would be interested to see if anyone else does too.

I just use tap water. I believe that snakes receive their calcium from the bones of their prey. Thats what I was told at least. Can anyone confirm that?

If your water is safe enough for humans to drink, you won't have to decontaminate it for your snake. I use plain tap water for all my herps (frogs get dechlorinated water). After more than 10 years, I've never had a problem that can be traced back to using tap water.

Tap water as long as it is "potable" or consumable is just fine. Mark

Ya tap water is good.

IME a ball python raised on hard (calcium and mineral rich water, higher hardness, electrical conductivity, and Ph) grow better than snakes on moderately hard (like Toronto) water...

if you won't drink the tap, don't make your animals (herps) drink it either ;)

snakes (as far as I know) get their calcium from their prey.
