View Full Version : When did cresties acquire ESP?

Cresties must have ESP or something to that effect. I've tried for 2 days now to take pictures of one particular one that I've had an inquiry about, but he keeps evading my efforts like a pro. I've gotten pictures of a tail, a really great shot of a nostril, and a fantastic picture of a cresty taking a flying leap off my hand. It would have been great if it had been in focus, even though it wouldn't be good for showing off the gecko. For some reason this sucker is not getting photographed. All the others are sitting perfectly still, great poses, would make perfect pictures... and when I aim at them, they run off too. What's with these little rats right now??? How'd they learn ESP???

It got me thinking that maybe they learn to recognize the camera, and that it leads to them being followed around by that big predatorial looking thing from the sky? Could they perceive it as danger? Those not having the camera aimed at them probably took notice, froze in place to avoid detection and then run like crazy when this thing does come their way. When I reach into the enclosure with a food dish, they stay put, but when I reach in empty handed to remove something, spot clean or plant maintenance, they move away before I can get started doing anything, even if they're sleeping at the time.

Any guesses about whether or not this is all a coincidence, or whether it's all part of the survival instinct? Of course it could be just them having fun at my expense, I wouldn't put it past those silly-eyed clowns.

I think If was survival instinct they would run from you regardless of what you had in your hands. Set the camera by the cage and I bet they will pay no attention to it.

Mine hate the noise my camera makes while it's focusing. If I just left the camera sitting there, they wouldn't care. As soon as it starts moving and whirring, they take off like a shot. Or at the very least try to avoid it.

Our cresties just sit there and pose for us. I think you should just ship yours over to me and I will try to tame them so they will sit for the photo session..........and then I might consider sending them back to you. Actually, I think all cresties are alike........that's why if you do get a picture of them, you feel like you accomplished quite a bit.

My cresteds seem like natural posers. My big male is the only one who takes a second to sit still. All the babies and the female harlequin love to have pictures taken. Sometimes I have to give the male a bit of baby food to lick off his lips to get him to sit for a second :)

they always seem to leap one second before you expect them to.As far as reading minds,I think they anticipate real well for survival. It would be cool though if they could read minds,if they read my mind they would be breeding all the time.
