Hey guys.. what about a gun with these stats:
Model: Stanley ETSTL1
NONCONTACT TEMPERATURE READER " Easy to use just point, shoot and read. " Instant readings in Fahrenheit or Celsius.
Accurate digital readout (+/- 2% or +/- 2ºC [+/- 2º F]).
Temperature range: -18 to 260º C (0 to 500º F).
Laser aiming for more precise readings.
Matt, what kind does PC Pets carry anyhow? Any with laser aiming?

BOB:
Before I heard about all the really new and cool looking types out there I picked up this one. A Canadian Tire was closing down and I picked it up 50% off.

Works great, does the job, but I will be upgrading to a proffesional temp gun like the Raytek Raynger ST20 this summer. Might do a large order with 4 other people. If anyone is interested they should contact me via email. There are other types and even real small units from a range of makers but I like this look :D

I can get a temp gun through the place that I work that looks to have all the features and the look of the Raytek but definately not the cost. Is $120-150 US the average price for models like that? What are the price ranges of some of the guns available up here in Canada?

I've sold the Raytek MiniTemp MT4 in the past. These are by far top of the line for herp applications. They have a better distance to spot ratio than most models available to herpers. Most other models are 2:1 or even 1:1. This just means that with these models, the further away you are from the surface you're measuring, the larger the area that the gun is detecting - not very accurate. So with a 1:1 spot ratio, if you're measuring from 24" away, then you're measuring a 24" spot.
Raytek MiniTemp's have a distance to spot ratio of 8:1, so if you're doing that same measurement from 24" away, then you're measuring a 3" spot - much more accurate.
Anyway, the specs on the MT4 are:
Temperature Range: -18 to 275°C (0 to 525°F)
D:S (Distance to Spot Size): 8:1
Response time: 500 mSec, 95% response
Emissivity: Pre-set at 0.95
Accuracy: ±2%, or ±2°C (±3°F) whichever is greater
Laser sighting
They're the best I've used. I've sold them in the past for about $110 CDN (brand new, unopened packaging) which is an incredible deal seeing as how they retail for $99 USD + $15-25 USD for shipping to Canada.
I may have some more available depending on interest.
Cheers,
Ryan
Edit: plus they run on 9V batteries, which I find to be very convenient since some other models run on the less common-type batteries.

Iv'e got the same pro exotics that Peterm has. Don't think you can get that model anymore, they have the PE-1 for the same price now. I'm very happy with it in general but do sometimes miss the range and laser on a higher end model.
If I get another one though i'd spend the extra $$ and get the laser sight and the 8:1 aspect ratio.
