What brand and/or type of Camera are you using? Should I assume an SLR?
gargoyle

Yes definitely SLR, check out my last post in the General forum I listed some of my equipment there, if you'd like I can post a full list of what I have, but that reads off like a wish list for camera junkies and gadget freaks, which I have to agree that I am (both)....have a good day
Wow gargoyle!
Awesome pics!
What kind of telephoto lens ya use?
I simply love that wolf picture. Rare enough to see them let alone get a fantastic picture of them like that.

They are a bit soft, perhaps a larger aperture or tripod would help. In the thread you refered to you claimed to be a "pro" photographer, I hope that was your attempt at humor.

Hey raindog, how about you downsize a 10mb file to 28Kb or lower and see how soft your images are. By the way I am a Pro photographer and the only hint of humour in this thread is your reply..... I have no problem accepting any critiques, but if it's a negative one it should at least come from somone with some knowledge of the subject and the settings on where the photos where taken, not from someone that doesn't have an idea about lighting or cover in Ontario forests. And by the way by opening the aperature that would do the opposite as it would extend the shutter speeds and therefore be a "softer" image...
Have a nice day!
Personally I like the look of a softer image. (Took the photography program at Fanshawe College so I know a bit about what I'm talking about). The are all great shots.. the moose just has this look about him like "hmm that's a funny looking animal" and the mink looks guilty.. like you caught him doing something he shouldn't have been doing..

Thanks, and by the way, for a lot of the shots that I take, a tripod or slower shutter speeds are not an option! I assure all whom are concerned to originals are by no means "soft" as I've done 16x20's from most of these with perfect clarity! Thanks again for all the POSTIVE feedback.
Awesome picas man, I never get tired of seeing our native animals.

"And by the way by opening the aperature that would do the opposite as it would extend the shutter speeds and therefore be a "softer" image..."
Wrong, a larger aperture allows more light to hit the sensor so that a faster shutter speed may be used. Surely you know this since you are a "pro", must have been more humor.
"By the way I am a Pro photographer and the only hint of humour in this thread is your reply"
What is your definition of "pro photographer"? Professional photographers make their living from their images.

A larger aperature means a smaller opening f22=smaller
a smaller f2.8= larger (more light)
I looked at supposedly some of your pro work, try a bit harder and don't compaine about soft images when half of yours are truly out of focus... by the way people don't post stuff on these forums to be put down by trolls looking for something to do!

I don't know how to make this any simpler for you, how about this... the smaller the number the larger the aperture. Here's a link if you are still confused...

I never claimed to be a pro, I'm an amateur but feel free to critique my images all you want.
PS. I'm still waiting for your definition of a professional photographer.

Well a web site states something so I guess that is the only way it can be.. something on the web would never be wrong and just so you know dpreview does state the same as what I stated above.
If you have a need to try to get under someones skin, you're barking up the wrong tree (pun intended "raindog"). But personally if you can't do better or equal, why again are you putting my photos down, my only assumption would be jealousy and in that case don't worry there is hope for you too that some day you'll be good at something. And by the I am a pro photographer and have made my income this way for over five years now. I have my own studio, photo lab, photo retail store which are all very succesful and well known. That's my defiition! I've got a definition of a troll too, it might be changed though to include you in there.
Have a nice day and I really hope that someday you can get some help and realize that trying to put people down is just a waste of time.
God bless!
well i dont think anyone could have put it any better gargoyle.
Congrats on not letting him get to you , thats all people like that are looking for. Funny thing is they wouldn only dare to say something like that behind the absolute security of their computer monitor. And we wonder why our society i so dis-respectfull these days.
anyways Yea those photos should go to national geographic.
Truely amazing as someone said earlier how hard it is to even see a grey wolf, I would love to see more of your photos.

Let me clarify myself.
It bugs me when people claim to be something that they are not. In my original post I mentioned that your shots were soft, offered advice and took issue with your claims of being a pro photographer. Maybe I shouldn't have done the latter but I do that to people who like to pat their own backs for mediocre work.
There are many differences between you and I, the first and foremost is that I do not claim to be something that I am not.
The second is that I take critisism as a means of growth.
Third, I know that the images I post represent my work so I don't reduce them to crap for the sake of bandwidth.
Fourth, I can spell aperture and know that fstops are fractions... smaller numbers meaning larger openings of the shutter.
Fifth, I submit my photos for review among real pro photographers on sites like http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/ .
This gallery might amaze you... http://www.fredmiranda.com/hosting/showgallery.php?cat=998&thumb=1&si=tom+hicks .
And finally, I would never attack someone who was trying to teach me something.
Here's my gallery, as stated I'm an amateur but pick it apart as you wish.

My first impression of your original post was that your intention was to get under his skin with the final remark... after all you did say this:

To me.... regardless of whatever the truth may have been, the above quote was originally better left unsaid.

I wouldn't say he was patting himself on the back. My impression was rather that he was sharing some of hs favorite shots for the enjoyment of the other members. I certainly enjoyed the photos.

Keep in mind, you have to reduce the image size to something ridculous like 15 or 28 K in order to post them onto the page directly from your PC.
Nonetheless, thank you for posting those links Raindog....... your photos of the "Banyantrees" are incredible...... very Tolkien-esque. You both do some incredible work.. far better than mine anyway...... so rather than squabble amongst ourselves..... I tihnk we should sit back, and enjoy the pics.
Hopefully we can cool it down here.... and get back to the photography.
Again, I thank you both for some great photos.

Right gargle,
I'm a troll, you're a pro and the sun is shining on antartica this very minute, who cares.
I liked the composition of your mink shot, they are not often seen. Could you link a photo from your homepage with a bit better resolution?
gargoyle

If you'd like to look at the photos on my homepage you'll have to go there as the link feature is disabled as to stop internet theft!

Once again you chime in with sarcasim! I do feel sorry for anyone as sad as you that still has to put other people down in an effort to try to feel better about yourself. I hope some day you come to grips with who you are!
God Bless!
