View Full Version : Another Rosy Pic
Today was a big day for dozer, he finally came out of hiding, ate, shed, and drank some water. Thanks for looking!

Very nice pic, and a beautiful snake!
I am just wondering if Dozer's ever had a problem with regurgitation? I only ask because I've heard that Rosy boas that are offered water soon before or after feeding have a high chance of regurgitation. This is what Roy told me and what I've read on various care sheets. I wouldn't know first hand because I always offer water at least 3 days before or after a feeding. Just curious to know if you've ever had a problem.
Cheers,
Ryan

So Ryan what you're saying is that you take the water away from the snake three days before feed and leave it out for three days after?
All my Rosy Boas always have water all the time, always have. The only regurge problems I got came this year with both of my south bajas which both regureged. They are in the same rack with my deserts and my female bay of la. I suspected it was maybe caused by the temp being too warm, close to 90, but I can't be sure because the others are fine. I only feed them every 7 days and small meals. I'd have to check which one it was, the male or the female but one regurged at least twice on me. I'm being very careful with that one.

Trevor

I don't leave water in the cage all the time. They get water offered to them every 10 days or so. Just something I've read and discussed with Roy, I don't want to take any chances. I feed every 4-6 days for neonates and offer water 2-3 days after a feed. I’m just interested if people here have actually experienced regurgitation in Rosy boas from offering water too soon before or after a meal, or if I'm just being overly cautious...

Thanks for the kind words! I bought him from a breeder near San Diego.
I've heard about the 3 day water rule too. I don't usually give him water on feeding days, but today was the first day I saw him move in a week so I figured what the hey. In the past it has worked out that I give him water at the same time or close to it and he's never regurgitated. I also could stand to give him somewhat larger meals so maybe thats why.

I think some subspecies are more sensitive than others. I have a hard time believing that my San Gabriels (a coastal form) would regurgitate from consuming water after a meal. They seem pretty hardy. It's easy for me to monitor though so I just offer water after the meal is digested.
Dozer is a very nice looking snake, thanks for sharing.
