View Full Version : Signatures! EVERYONE please read!!!
I know that you guys like to list everything that you own in your signatures, and that's great. However, incase you haven't noticed, we do have a 4 line rule that we ask you all follow when entering your signature. A lot of the times we get people saying that they didn't know, so here's where it gets pointed out to you..
http://www.ssnakess.com/photopost/data/500/473signature.JPG
The blue arrow clearly points to where it's stated that only 4 lines of text are allowed.. A space DOES count as a line, so keep that in mind when creating your signatures.
Thanks everyone for your time and if you notice that yours is over the limit, please change it to comply with the rule.

I had 4 lines before and I was told it was only 3 by one of the mods, has it changed?

Well I had a Savannah, a bearded dragon, armadillo lizard and a crested at the time when I was told to shorten it to three that's why I've just done it the way I do it now.

Less than 4 lines, not 4 lines or less - so 3 would be the maximum... I think :p
Maximum is 4.. How long ago were you asked to shorten it to 3?? As long as i've been a mod it's always been 4 lines max..

Hi Matt,
The way it reads is less than 4 lines, so a mod would be correct in saying 3 is the maximum - it's just worded wrong if 4 is actually the maximum.
Cheers,
Ryan

Damn your logic, Ryan :p
Beaners, I have a feeling it was I who asked you to change it, but I would not have said 3. If it wasn't me, then it wasn't me. But no matter how it's worded, the general idea is that it's to be 4 lines or less. EITHER way, whether it's "less than 4 lines", or "4 lines or less", it doesn't explain why people think they can have 9-line signatures, now does it? :p

Yeah I think it was you or Marissa darn the both of you :-p oh well I found a better way to do it anyways

That's a GOOD point!
I was just defending the anonymous mod who said he had to have 3 lines max...
Should say "less then or equal to", and if you really want to get nitpicky, it should be "than" not "then"... LOL!

4 lines at what resolution? Maybe it should be set to a maximum number of characters?
RMBoltons signature is 3 lines at 1024x768 but only 2 at 1600x1200.
Then you also have font size to deal with. What if I had a sig with a font twice the size of everyone elses. it could take up twice the space(8 lines) yet still only be 4.
This
is
4
lines

Haha Derrick. :p 4 lines on my monitor, how's that?. It's BIG. Otherwise, if someone's going to have a BIG GIANT signature on in BIG BRIGHT colours (including those that have been known to fry retinas such as lime green and yellow) then we'll just have to decide then...

hehe well what about spacing?
Does
This
count
As four?
or is that 7?
thx Derrick

:p
This thread was not intended or posted to have everyone say, 'well what about this and what about that' only to point out the rule. :D Unfortunatly (Like always) the Mods have NO control over how the rules in the signature box read or the ability to set it up for a maximum number of Characters.. (not trying to sound 'harsh' or be a dink)
I understand everyone's concern, and I understand that everyone likes to list all their animals.. Just all too often we have people list their 9 animals vertically in their signature and it gets annoying..
Anyone Remember when Jordan had all 47 of his animals listed that way in his signature?? I thought people were going to hang the kid... :D

Is it possible to put a picture in your signature? And if so, would it count as only one line?

Hey here's a thought, lets make signatures be limited to a size directly proportional to their average post length. For example, when someone has 10 000 posts and they're all "I agree, nice pic, conrats, bite me," etc... I know I'm being ana!, but I think people should have more to say in conversation than in their signature. :D
Seriously though, I do appreciate the fact that signatures on this forum are not the banners you see elsewhere, and that avatars aren't the size of a 3x6 photo.

Isn't that 5 lines?
Would only be 4 I guess if the Gilligan didn't wrap but it does.

LOL Do you seriously think I'd be sitting here enforcing the rules while having a 5 line signature?
On teeny tiny monitors, my signature could be 5 lines? On my monitor, it's 4. On teeny tiny monitors many, many members have signatures that are over the limits. I go by my monitor.

Its 4 on my monitor, with space for another word or two to spare. In the post you made, nita, its 3 words over the next line. I have a fairly average/small monitor, too.

Simply put a word counter in the signature area (via HTML code) to count the number of letters that are alouded to be (say 200 letters for ex.)
Piece 'O cake ;)

dude a letter counter wouldnt work because you could do this
1
20
30
etc
I wonder if they could add a letter and a line counter/limiter???

I think it also makes a difference what latout you are using. I use sky blue I think and lots of the sigs are slightly over four lines. I may be wrong but I think it does change it a bit. My monitor is 17 inch(not huge but not tiny) and Heathers is still 5 lines.
Just a thought.

Heathers is only 4 on mine... But why do people argue or try to make other solutions.. Do what the mods say its that simple.

There IS a letter counter for signatures, wether they can put it or not.

Heather's signature on my screen is 4 lines and im using skyblue and a 17 inch monitor. It all depends on your screen resolution..

screen resolution... good call
I switched mine to the default though and Heathers was 4 lines with some to spare
That's weird.. :D As long as she complies with the rules, it doesn't matter.. As soon as she breaks the rules, she's GONE..

For people who are confused about word wrapping:
Use line breaks to calculate how many lines are in your sig.
