Hows going peeps.
Something Ive been wondering about for a while now:
What do you guys think about putting sod down on the inside of enclosures.
First off; I have a really good drainage system so water build up wont be a probleme.
I was thinking of laying down plastic with holes in it for water to run through.
Then adding a 1 inch layer of gravel
Followed by a 1 inch layer of soil
and of course then the sod on top.

Of course I will need a naturaly grown sod that is pesticide free.
Does sod usually have pesticides or anything on it of is it pretty safe?

I really think it would totally awsome and still be great for drainage.

just a thought

If you are talking about buying the sod from a sod farm...
I would guess it has both pesticides and herbicides in and on it. They are growing it to sell and wouldn't risk it. If you were seriously going to use grass I would plant from seed.

PLus with the sod rolls, it would be quite heavy for a cage. With seeds you you probably have a better chance of it taking root and growing over placing sod down. Good luck!

Most sod farms have pestacides and herbicides in there sod, I know where I live there is one sod farm that is organic and dosent use them.. Like clint545 said they are quite heavy so it depends on what you want to keep it in. If there is to much heat or light it will dry up and it usually takes about a week + for it to take to the under laying soil.

yea I have a built my own custom cage the bottom is split with 3 feet squared floor space on each side. I sat inside it when I first built it, so I dont think the sod weight will be a factor.

But thanks peeps, I hope there is a natural sod farm somewhere near me.
