What would be the best way to heat sweaterboxes for BP's?
I am going to be using 3" heat tape with a thermostat.

Won't heat tape melt the plastic if they get too close?

If it's hot enough to melt plastic, you AND your snake are in BIG trouble! :D
You need to control in with a thermostat or at the very least a dimmer.

What would be an ok temp to heat it at?

They need a warm side of about 90-92F and a cool side of about 80F.
Do some reading before you consider buying. The temps are the most basic care info you need to know. Get the basics down now and save your animal and yourself a LOT of headaches.

Are there any sweaterboxes that can't handle those temps?

I really hope not :)
90 degrees F isn't all that hot. Anything made by Rubbermaid or Sterilite should stand up just fine, they're used by the majority of ball keepers on the site I think.
90 degrees is less than a Human's body heat(98.6)...
