veiled cage!

im finally done the cage i was building for a while now. here is a pic, ill take some more later... its fora veiled cham... there is more ventilation then i cud ever expect, the side doors are fully mesh... almost every plant inside is real.

Looks good but some stuff you might wanna take into consideration.

1. Move it away from the window

2. Might want to get a stand for it, higher the enclosure the better

Sweet cage!!!

The problem with the window is that sunlight could fry him, and chameleons aren't very good with ketchup. Another worry is possible drafts...

as u can see, the window can not shine inside the cage, back wall is melamine...

thanks for comments... have any of u ever kept them in enclosures with glass? cuzi hear they can get stressed because of reflection...

Sorry dude I dont mean to call down your enclosure, its really cool.
i just dont really know if glass was the best choice for that enclosure. You prob should have asked about it before building but its kinda late now. The probleme with glass is the reflection. If he is constantly seeing himself in the glass he is going to be one stressed out cham. I have heard of chameleons freaking out because of psoters so this could deffinalty become a probleme. BUt again there are other instances where chameleons do fine in glass enclosures. I geusse your just going to have to put him in there and find out.

Also if that is wood chips as a sub strate you might want to change that as well. IF he tries to eat any crix of the floor and injests one of those big peices of wood, there is a big chance it will get lodged in his stomache. Not a good thing at all to say the least.

Also the melamine against the window can probably still heat up quite abit if there is direct sunlight. Still might be a good idea to move it.
Other then that looks like you got some killer carpandry skills

thanks... yea, for the glass, i knew b4 i built it, but i know several chams who live in glas tanks so i wanted to take my chances... As for substrate, i m going to be hand feeding him and cuping, no free range tahts y i put it there. and for the window, ill find out in the summer when itll be heating... the sun barely goes on that side of the house for about 4 hours or so in the morning i think, i never really observed it, and i dont think there is direct in the window, but ill find out with my temp gun the first warm day;)

Isn't that light bulb within the enclosure a potential accident for burns?

Problems being next to window:
-In winter heat energy is lost through glass and cold air left in its place can cause a series of illnesses
-light energy can cause rapid and extreme temperature buildups.

Problems with Light inside cage:
-Danger of burning
-Where is your UVB bulb?

Problems with substrate:
-Provide hidding places for feeders.
-Risk of impaction.
-Provide place for water buildup.
-Breeding ground for bacteria and fungus.

Problems with glass cage:
-Poor air flow leading to moisture buildup.
-Chameleons don't understand glass - major stressor
-Reflection can be a problem with some specimens.
-Impossible to provide proper hydration with lack of drainage in cage.

danger of burning-I put a cage around the bulb b4 putting him in
dont see uvb? its at the roof of the cage closest to the glass
providing hiding places for feeders? i hand feed
same with impaction.
water build up? i spray on the leaves and drops dotn get to the bottm and a container at the bottom caches dripper's water
bacteria, fungus?only when wet and not likely to happen even on wet cypress mulch
poor airflow? both sides of the cage are tottaly mesh from top to bottom... there is plenty of ventilation
about the glass, we will see, i hope he doesnt mind it, i know several guys living in glass.
i check temps everyday with a temp gun,every part of the cage, so i will know if anything is wrong about the window. but i will probably move the cage anyways.

Yea I had and cup feed also. But I can garauntee that crickets will escape some how. It's just part of keeping reptiles.
Call me sick but I like the sound of crickets chirping around the house at night. I had one "Jimminy" under my fridge for almost amonth. (lots of crumbs, lol)
I had noticed my chameleons eating the dirt in the plant pots when I first aquired them, and unaware I should have river stones covering the soil, so it doesnt even have to be injested from trying to catch a meal.

Plus not having the chips on the bottom and having something like paper towel is just so much easier to clean, and a heck of alot cheaper. Giving you extra money to buy some sweet feeder insects like silkies, lol. I also put fake plants down to cover the paper towel to give it more natural look. Imperative to clean them once a week though.
