I am almost done building my first custom made enclosure and I had a question about heating it. The only screen on the viv is for the vents so I need a way of heating it. What are the lights called that don't burn reptiles?

Those dont give off good enough heat for certain animals. If you need temps over 85, your going to need a normal bulb for heat and if you dont want it to burn you reptile, cover it with a screen box.

So if I made a cage for the bulb out of extra 1x2's and screen it would work ok?

As long as the snake cant touch the bulb, yes.

Will the screen get too hot for him to touch?

It could get too hot; also if the bulb is too close to the 1x2's they will start to smoke. What are you keeping? If it's Beardies and the bulb is high enough and out of reach, don't worry. A snake, Iguana, or monitor may reach the bulb. I have a huge enclosure for several pairs of Beardies, I use two 250 watt heat lamps to get enough heat, there is a screen barrier only because I used to keep a large Iguana. The screen barrier is far enough from the bulbs so as not to get hot.

I'm getting a baby tic, so he will be able to reach it.
