Has anyone noticed that it's snake week on the Discovery Channel?
Monday was "The Big Squeeze", that program about big constrictors attacking humans...ya, we have talked about that one.
Tuesday was about the Nabi desert or something. Snakes and other stuff...not bad, not great.
Yeah and we don't have our dish set up yet to see any of the shows.... I hope some one's taping these.

you need a dish to get the discovery channel?
Hmmm...
I watched part of Monday's show... I turned it off though, because my parents already aren't too fond of snakes, and I didn't want to freak them out any more than necessary ;) I'll try to catch the show tonight though -- last night I flipped it on for a second during a commercial break of the show that my dad was watching... it looked like a desert sidewinder that they were showing.... the few seconds that I saw anyways :)

I only watched a little bit of the big squeeze. I left half way threw it though as I thought it was very negative and of no benifit to watch it...........so, I went back to cleaning my retics!..lol.

Go figure...Last night's snake week show was about venomous creatures and how venom affects the body. I didn't watch much of it but Steve Irwin was catching rattle snakes in the US...that was much better.
Tomorrow’s show look like it might be pretty good.
at what time do they play?

They are on at 6:00pm and 11:00pm Mountain time so 8:00 & 1:00 Eastern time.
Aren't they the same shows they played last time they had snake week?

Most likely...However, I missed it last time so I'm interested in watching them...although I must say, I'm disapointed so far.

We don't have cable, so the other option is a dish.

I liked the one that was on today, in costa rica. That guy seems kind of rough with the snakes, but i havent done anyhting with venemous so i cant reall have a good opinion. Usually they are good shows (for pics and scenery) but they are old re-runs and some seem to want to stop all snake owning altogether :( . Oh well i enjoy watching them.

I almost turned it off after 5 minutes because of the direction it was taking...Venomous & Dangerous...or some other crap with scary music and all...come on already. Would it be that hard to portray snakes as nice creatures?
The herpetologist was better though...It looked to me like they made a nice show about catching wild venomous snakes and then someone edited it to sensationalize the dangers of snakes. What else is new??? The Discovery Channel's ads for snake week all seem so informative and interesting...then they give us this crap...

I love at the end of the big squeeze when the African Rock Python eats a gazelle. It was just awesome. The rest of the show was fairly negative. It disgusts me that zoo keepers and animal handlers don't know some of the basic safety tips when handling large pythons.
Did anyone tape these? We'd like to put them in digital format (VCD) but didn't manage to get any of the episodes on tape.

The Friday one was better...I really like the village in Africa that worshiped ball pythons.
Although the Clearwater Rattle snake round-up was just as horrifying as ever. I've seen clips of it on TV before but it always pisses me off. The have some Texan bow-honks (no offence to any Texans here) pumping gas into a little cave to flush out the snakes then eventually toss hundreds of them into a pit where they are publicly executed and gutted buy beauty pageant girls. The worst part was when they showed a bucked of debodied heads in a bucket...they were thrashing around biting each other...arghh
Sorry for the rant...
I found 'the big squeeze' fun to watch, especially the rock swallowing the entire gazelle down, that was amazing.
I also liked the different methods they showed on how to get a constrictor to release its coils (hot water, alcohol etc.).
Can't really comment on the other shows, since I did not get home in time to see it.

i must say that i agree big time with big mike, the thought of those rattlers suffering just so some fat sceptic (sceptic tank = Yank, cockney rhyming slang) can say how brave these dumb fat ignorant gits are. makes my stomach churn.
do they not realise what the overall implications are? the fact that flushing out these snakes with gasoline, will pollute that area for possibly many years. not to mention all the other fauna that is killed or directly affected.
cheers,
paul
