I was interested in buying a pixie frog, but i want to know a few things about them first.. i read that the burrow a lot and spend a lot of time hidden.. i was just wondering if thats true? do they just stay out of site 24/7? and i was wondering what kind of setup would be best. should it be mostly land with a large water dish? 50% water 50% land... or mostly water? and whats the life expectancy on them?
thanks,
Davey

For a pixie, I would personaly go with mostly land and a LARGE water dish. Give them a DEEP substrate........ at least 6 inches. The substrate ideally should be eco-earth, forest bed, bedabeast, or coco-husk fiber. They are all exactly the same thing.
An aquatic setup is too problematic unless you are going for a LARGE amount of water in a large tank with intense filtration. Otherwise, a small volume of water that is not contained in a bowl will be dificult to drain, and will foul very quickly. That said, they are really not aquatic animals anyway, and a terrestrial setup with a big water dish is more realistic. Plus, a bowl is far easier to work with as you can pick it up, dump it, and clean it rather easily.
These frogs get BIG...... so be prepared for at least a 60 gallon tank for a full sized animal. They eat TONS as well while they are growing.
They will spend a lot of time buried..... they are fossorial sit-and-wait predators, so don't hold out for too much activity.
If you think before hand that these might be a little too big for your liking, I would recommend a pac-man frog. They are quite similar in terms of lifestyle, and are not so demanding in terms of housing and feeding. A full sized pac man (C. cranwelli) can live comfortably in a 10 gallon tank.
So, good luck with whatever you choose.

Thanks a lot for the reply, im actually planning on picking up a pacman with the pixie (using different tanks of course) i just wanted a little bit of info first ... i realised they got big, but i never thought i'd need a 60 gallon tank! lol.. but i think im still gonna get one, getting a 60 gallon tank shouldnt be a problem. one more quick question. got an estimated life expectancy on the pixie's?
Thanks,
Davey
