Goodluck.

Paul, you're not "importing" animals if they stay in the same country( Saskatchewan and Ontario are both in Canada). Put 'em in a box, throw them on a plane. Simple.

Thanks Tony I have shiped befor .Just wondering abought permits I heard that you need permets to bring in snakes to sask ,just want to know if I have to do some thing on my end.
I think it was Ryan that said that they need permits to bring snakes back from the calgary show . want to make shure so the person I'm shipping to do's not lose there snakes
ACtually Mykee Saskatchewan has weird laws that you do have to fill out papers to import provicially
Whoever is buying the snakes has to have provincal import permits.
Mykee - I KNOW! :) - I just found that out as well...and I live here - I guess I have done some illegal trading in my days - opps
However as KATT stated its only up to the receiver to fill out forms not the sender.
Gawd bless Saskatchewan government!
Maybe Saskatchewan should seperate form Canada. Making your own rules, the gaul! lol..

screw you :) lol
stupid saskatchewan...... :P
You only need the import papers if the reptiles are restricted in Sask. The ones you are shipping are fine and do not require any paper work.
Ryan needed paper work b/c he is set up as a zoo.
really ryan told me you need it reguardless
because I emailed CFIA and they had said no.
I posted that on here for confirmation and ryan said thats not the case.

Any captive wildlife, which includes goldfish (basically anything other than cat's dog's or livesock) requires permits to come into, or out of, Alberta or Saskatchewan.
Everyone is supposed to do it, very few ever do, and very few ever get into trouble for it. Because of our zoo permit, we have to take inventory and write things in and out, and that is why we can't cut corners.
If or when they catch you, they do charge you provincially - and it is a federal offense under WAPPRIITA to import and export CITES 2 animals without following import and export laws.
B.C and Manitoba don't require permits for anything which is legal in the province (which is nearly everything).
Both Saskathchewan and Alberta seem to be enforcing these laws more so in the last 4 months or so, than they did in the last 5 years.

Alberta's laws seem a bit more sketchy, based on interpretation. I've heard the gambit of all exotics, restricteds only and indigenous only require export.

They do seem to be interperated differently as far as health permit's are concerned for temporary permits, Calgary being the most severe, - but I've never heard that one didn't need import or export paperwork for any reptile, from any of the offices we've gotten paperwork through. We've always had to get it for everything, even corn snakes.
Maybe someone from TARAS should just call and ask someone who enforces the laws - rather than base things on hearsay.

A handy resource for laws, and other things regarding reptiles and amphibians in your province is www.Carcnet.ca
They have a list of provincial regulations regarding captive wildlife.
The section they have from Alberta is found at
http://www.carcnet.ca/english/legal/legalAB.html
It was taken from the full act found at
http://www.qp.gov.ab.ca/Documents/REGS/1997_143.CFM
At the bottom of the http://www.carcnet.ca/english/legal/legalAB.html page, there are links to every province, which make interesting reading.
Alberta’s laws are very long, and appear to have been written by a team of lawyers, and the way they are written could leave them open to interpretation to many wildlife officers. I do know different offices enforce and interoperate the health certificate part differently, so some may interoperate the import and export laws differently than they are meant to be. .
It may be a good idea to phone the person in charge of permits for your area, to see how they are currently enforcing the import laws. Maybe things have changed since I last imported cornsnakes to a reptile show – who knows. Maybe it would be an opportunity to influence change of the way the laws are handled.
In Calgary, the person in charge of permits is Kathy Vallee.
