Retic Questions?

Hey guys,
Within the month I am recieving a 3 foot normal retic. Right now she is going to go in a temporary custom made cage. I won't have the money to build/buy a better one for at least a month but the guy said he needs to get rid of the snake a.s.a.p. Since I don't have the money, she will be going it a Cabinet converted into a cage. It is 3' tall, 3' wide, and 18" deep. It is the best I can do right now. My main question was, it has a shelf in the middle and I was wondering if I could cut a hole in it and stick a branch through it so the snake could climb up and the basking spot would be up there. The problem is I have no way of heating the bottom shelf and I was looking for ideas. Any advice on caring for retics is also appreciated.

At 3ft. the snake would do fine a medium to large Rubbermaid. Probably the best way to go. Be prepared, they grow very quickly, and get huge.

what experience do you have with other snakes? as kevyn said they get very big very quickly and will require a fair sized enclosure that can take up a big portion of a room.

Currently I have an 8' burm, a pair of normal bp's, and a 21" Desert King. I used to have a 9' Red-Tail. Trust me, I have been wanting a retic for a long time! Please post in my CAGE SIZE? Question in this forum.

Hello, you may do better laying the cabinet down instead of keeping it standing up. Ground area is more important than height for a retic. It will also give you plenty of time to think up a new living plan. Just cut some slits in the side, this will help with humidity. You can make a great top from plexiglass, its not expensive to buy custom cut for the top. I would just take the shelf out, just make sure there are no rough edges left. It has probably been treated (polyurethane) too, so it will do well with the humidity. I hope everything goes well!
