i will be getting my first boa tomorrow. i just want to make sure i have everything set up right.

first off i will be putting him in a rubbermaid clever latch container. itmeasues 88 cm L x 45 D x 40 H. i drilled 8 small holes (4 across the top, 4bottem) on the front and back for airflow. also the latch system is horrible so i drilled 2 holes thru the lip of the container and lid in order secure the lid . i bought a sunbeam heat pad with 3 settings ihave it directly un 1/3 of the tank on med setting.. it maintains a temp of 30 - 31 degrees on the surface (digi thermometer with probe) and 27 on the cool side. i have a granit rock watr dish on the cool side and a half log hide on the warm. oh and just layed paper towel down as the substrate.

well I was at it i set up a similar tank for my BP instead of a silly aquarium.

any comments?

Hi, I have the same heat pad. It will maintain the desired temp. for a short while. I keep mine on the low setting and it will hit 120 degrees. After they are left on for a long time they tend to develop hot spots that become dangerously hot for the snake. I plugged mine into a dimmer that controls the temp.. You can find a thread on the enclosure forum on how to wire up the dimmer. Also make sure that the half log isn't cedar or pine; they sweat out a sap that could be toxic to your snake.

Good Luck, Paul.
