Ya, my mom actually breeds Miniature Schnauzers and our one females that we breed has had 31 puppies in 5 years in all. We are quite happy with her and last year was her last litter. Now she is just a pet and my favorite dog :) We are going to take a year off from puppies to find another female and to give us a break. Wait till there 5-8 weeks and they will be a total nuisance.

Great looking pups. Our Chesapeake Bay Retriever had a litter of 12, 2 years ago. Tonnes of work, but lots of fun. Best of luck with the little ones.

Our next dog will probably be a GSP.

Easy for you to say -- you didn't have 52 legs kicking your liver for 2 months ;)

Congrats on the puppies, Teresa.

Wow another litter! I can totally see a resemblance to my Am Staff mix. He has the same brown spots, flecks and the brown nose. Plus he is really careful picking stuff up in his mouth. Those are some great looking dogs good luck with the puppies!

Oh Tarzet, you have no idea how badly I want one.

My parents recently got themselves a new GSP pointer puppy. Gorgeous, and too smart for it's own good. My dad can hardly wait to hit the feild with her.

Congrats.

Vengeance, I see one contact there for all of Canada.
I understand there are animals that need rescuing.

There are tons of leos, bearded dragons, iguanas, turtles, boas, pythons, etc etc ETC that need resucing as well - but we don't harrass the breeders here. Especially not when they post a thread about how thrilled they are to have new hatchlings.

Most dogs up for adoption are crossbreeds, you would be surprised how many people want these hunting dogs in the prarie provinces and in North Dakota and Minn.

Thanks everyone!!
These are awesome dogs! Family dog, hunting dog, loving protector...I could go on all day! lol :P
Most people that have one, or have had one, will say the same.

Everyone here that has any sence knows that its not these kind of controled selective breedings are the blame for creating unwanted dogs. It is the dogs that have Irresponsible owners that let them run free unfixed, and people that do not realize or care about the resonsability of having a dog that are the problem.

I asure you that I am not adding to the unwanted dog poulation....I have no problem finding my pups responsable, loving owners.
I critically choose the potential buyers of my pups. I have said no to people that I dont think have the right intentions, live in an apartment, no yard, ect... I want the best homes for these little ones... I love them and of course want the best for them.

So, Vengeance.... Your nickname says it all.... I am sorry that you are so bitter.

Take care everyone :)

The breeding of dogs compared to the breeding of any herp is not an accurate comparison. There are literally thousands of dogs just right here in Ontario that need adoption. There is a huge world wide dog population problem, this problem does not exist in the herp world so to try and compare the two just isn’t possible. Also just as you are all free to post your congratulations on Tarzet's new puppies I am able to post my opinion on how I don't think we need more puppies. Also there are many more rescues in Canada for that breed, just didn't feel like looking up all of them, the reason I posted that website is because that one contact for Canada is actually located in Georgetown, Ontario which is the same province Tarzet is breeding her puppies in.

That is 100% not true, just doing a quick search on www.petfinder.com brought up quite a few pure breed German Short Haired puppies. Most are in the U.S but if you put the time and effort into finding the dog you want you can adopt the dog you want without having to contribute to the problem by buying from another back yard breeder.

Far from it actually, you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. My nickname comes from a comic book character in the Ghost Rider series of comics, I've been using it for many years, just never bothered to change it.

I also wouldn't refer to myself as bitter, but as educated on the overpopulation problem of dogs that exist today. So just because I don't agree with the fact that you are a breeder and a contributor to the overpopulation problem makes me bitter? I'm sorry that I don't want to sit her and oooooooooo and ahhhhhhh and make cute little noises at your contribution to a huge over population problem, but if you are going to post on a public forum you can expect to get opinions from all points of view and as such I'm stating mine.

*edit*

Also I haven't seen you mention the anything that says you are a responsible breeder other then you want to find good homes for your dogs. If I may ask how do you find good homes, do you have owners lined up before you breed? Are all the puppies spayed and natured before they leave your home? Do you have contracts with the owners stating that in the event they are going to give the dog up the must return the animal to you? If you have such a contract have you ever enforced it? How often do you check up on all of your puppies sold to ensure that they are not being put into shelters? Have you ever actually enforced a contract and charged anyone with violation of a contract? If you don't follow all of those guide lines then you aren’t a responsible breeder in my opinion.

Guys, this argument has been done over already. Why do you have to ruin what should be a joyous post with arguments. People are going to breed dogs. Good breeders and bead breeders. Make your own post if you want to but leave others to the topic that they are. I understand where you are coming from but honestly, by being abrupt and interrupting peoples posts all the time and being 'loud' about it. You are only going to turn people away from your cause. If you want to make a difference and allow people to here you you should really find a better way to relay your messages.

CONGRATS GUYS!!! I love pointers too! Later today I'll post pics of my moms new pups. Her Maggie had 5 puppies on Monday too. I wish I could have one but the hubby doesn't like dogs so i live vicariously through her lol. Run flyball with her dogs :) They're all spoken for too already.

^^Well, I guess I too feel a tad argumentative, Vengeance. How someone finds good homes is irrelevant, provided they do. And even "supposed" good homes can turn out negatively for the dog in certain circumstances. Additionally, having new owners lined up BEFORE one breeds is not necessarily a criteria for judging the quality or integrity of the breeder.^^

Are all the puppies spayed and natured before they leave your home?

^^Who spays and neuters 8 wk. old pups, pray tell, and why would a quality "breeder" want to, given that they are breeding to continue their good lines hopefully?^^

Do you have contracts with the owners stating that in the event they are going to give the dog up the must return the animal to you?

^^This DOES NOT indicate the quality or responsibility "quotient" of a breeder, only his policy.^^

How often do you check up on all of your puppies sold to ensure that they are not being put into shelters?

^^I've bought over 15 excellent dogs in my time, from very experienced and competent, caring, upstanding and responsible breeders. NOT one has ever called me to ask if my dog was in a shelter.^^

Have you ever actually enforced a contract and charged anyone with violation of a contract?

^^You've asked this twice now. I fail to see how this relates to being a caring and/or responsible breeder.^^

If you don't follow all of those guide lines then you aren’t a responsible breeder in my opinion.

^^And you're very welcome to it. But there are surely many who feel otherwise :) I feel personally that the guidelines you've submitted would eliminate a VERY large percentage of good breeders. Nothing personal, Vengeance, I just don't agree with you.^^

I know it's not personal, everyone has different views, not everyone will agree. I have no problem discussing my views in a constructive and respectful manner.

And even "supposed" good homes can turn out negatively for the dog in certain circumstances. Additionally, having new owners lined up BEFORE one breeds is not necessarily a criteria for judging the quality or integrity of the breeder.^^

For my criteria of a responsible breeder, I feel that there should be a waiting list of owners before the person even starts to breed.

^^Who spays and neuters 8 wk. old pups, pray tell, and why would a quality "breeder" want to, given that they are breeding to continue their good lines hopefully?^^

In my opinion, responsible breeders spay and neuter their 8 week old pups. If they don't want to contribute to the growing epidemic that is dog overpopulation every puppy they have should be spayed and natured as to insure that they don't breed.

^^This DOES NOT indicate the quality or responsibility "quotient" of a breeder, only his policy.^^

Yes it does, if they are truly responsible, then they should be willing to care for each and every single puppy that they produce. If they cannot care for each and every single animal that they produce then they shouldn't be producing them. If they are willing to let their puppy go to a pound to be eventually be put down instead of taking the dog in themselves since they were the ones who bred the dog, they are not responsible.

^^I've bought over 15 excellent dogs in my time, from very experienced and competent, caring, upstanding and responsible breeders. NOT one has ever called me to ask if my dog was in a shelter.^^

Then under my definition of a responsible breeder they are not responsible, they obviously only cared about the dog enough to the point that it left their care. If they were responsible and cared about the over population problem of the species they are breeding then they would have been responsible enough to find out and make sure that the dogs they were producing weren’t ending up in shelters and being killed.

^^And you're very welcome to it. But there are surely many who feel otherwise I feel personally that the guidelines you've submitted would eliminate a VERY large percentage of good breeders. Nothing personal, Vengeance, I just don't agree with you.^^

And eliminating dog breeding is a bad thing how? I can understand how rare lines of dogs may need to be maintained. But a majority of dogs bred do not need their lines maintained and do nothing but contribute to the problem we currently have right now. Also you’re entitled to disagree with me, I don't take people who disagree with me personally, but I feel strongly on this subject.

Leviathan

The argument may have been done before, but so has the posting of another person having puppies. So why is it that everyone else is allowed to give their opinions of praise and congratulations and I am asked to remain silent because I don't agree with the breeding of the dog?

I personally agree with most of Vengeance points.

BUT

I would like to just ask you guys to think about staying on topic out of respect for the thread starter....as this is probably not the time or the thread to discuss it. Although respectful thoughts on the issue will not cause this thread to close as I am simple suggesting here and not laying down a line. lol

She simply wanted to share a wonderful exciting event, and negative opinionated comments are probably unwanted, although yes its a free forum. Which is why I am only asking we simply talk about the issue at hand, puppies. :D
