A neat trick when mounting sorps. When they dry they tend to become stiff just soak for a bit in warm water and they will be limp again. Those look great.

Those look awesome!
Did she do it herself? Can you post how? Or provide a link?
That's a really great present. Some people are so creative.

would you not have to preserve them somehow? or does having them frozen cut it? I would think, especially with a tarantula that some sort of chemical preservation would be necessary in order to avoid decay (not having a significant exoskeleton and all)? I have no idea really, but am asking because I'd like to do the same with various winged non-exoskeleton insects.

i dont know how so did it...
i did freeze dry'em... freeze.. defrost.. freeze.. defrost.. etc..
she looked it up on the net.. some tips
said to coat'em a few times with hair spray
noticed no smell or decay yet and its been 4-5 days now..
and a scorpion she did 2 weeks ago is still fine..
went to value village and bought old frames and painted them
stacked them too
the scorpion was 2 frames and the tarantula is 3...
and they just fit... and the scorpions tail naturally sticks up.. she didnt make it stick up..
i think she did good.. :)
ill get her to write up a process if she can..

No Decay I have had the same scorps for years. Actually that tip came from Perri at Insectopia. He collects and mounts all kinds of insects. He always has a booth at the Calgary shows.

i'm so angry that my fiance threw out my dead xenesthis intermedia (that was a $175 spider!), he was such a gorgeous spider and died shortly after a molt. it would've been perfect... and he was pretty big too! damn that neat freak.

Just thought you might want to know that Dollarama stores are now stocking unfinished wood shadow boxes. They are not huge, but would certainly do the trick for some species. I picked up a couple to mount some moults that I have kept.
