Hi i was wondering whats a good cheap price for a female pastel. look at it this way. females take longer to mature then males so get a female thats the morph you want get some normal females and then by the time the females is mature and has babies its only one year until those baby males can breed. where can i get a cheap female pastel? i am located in the usa
If you want a "cheap" pastel, get a male and some normal girls.

To raise a female up to breeding age, and then raising one of her sons up, will take at least three seasons. And only give you one clutch.
If you buy a male, and multiple normal girls, it will take at the least 2 seasons before your producing mutliple clutches that contain Pastels. Keep the girls, and in another two seasons you can be producing many more clutches containing Pastels, and even the odd Super.
When I had first decided to invest in Ball Morphs, I thought the same way as you, and had looked into purchasing homozygous females first. The breeder that I had purchased from quickly corrected me on my thinking.
A girl can only be bred once a season. A male many times. Those who are patient usually reap the greater rewards.
Just my thoughts.

Why so worried about cheap?? You get what you pay for.
Just look up all popular breeder's sites, and check to see what they have available, or attend your next local herp expo.

A very very wise thing.
Go to the Ball Forum on Queensnake and click on ANY one of the breeders. There's more than enough Pastels floating around in the US. I don't think you'll have any trouble buying/finding one.
And get a male and 20 females. No point in raising up a female Pastel unless your plan is to make Supers, Bumblebees, etc etc and you're not at that level yet.

I can't understamd why every one charges more for the females over the males of the same mutation as one female canonly give you 8 babys max and a male can breed with ten or more females ,A good stud is worth more than a good maire anny day in my eyes .My two cents worth

It's because the males can breed more (perhaps up to 20) females that the males are cheaper - you don't need as many of them. If lots of breeders are looking to get a single male and multiple females in order to increase their production there is more demand for the females.
I've heard that female pieds might be considerably cheaper than male pieds. Is this true and if so does anyone have an explanation for this apparent exception to the rule? I think I understand the other exception – spider, due to no homozygous yet proven - but would like confirmation on what is going on with pieds.

On NERDS site they have males and females as the same price, but this may not always be the same. If a person is charging more for a female pied it can be for two reasons. One is that it has more white. Second is that on e male pied can be bred to multiple normal females and will produce tons of hets where as one female can only produce one clutch. So it all depends on the seller, IMO I think that the second reason I gave is how it should be if it's not.

Its a co-dominant gene Paul. The key to getting a super goes through a female. Everyone has their male already, but they acn't get enough females. Demand has outstripped supply.
That's because SOME breeders out west (no names, Jeff Favelle)don't sell any of their females, they hold them all back for their greedy, greedy selves...
