I have finally decided to buy one of these great snakes. Just a few questions? How aggressive are they because if they are way too agressive maybe I should go for something like a ball python? I don't want a big snake that is a problem to handle.

babies can be quite nippy with gentle handling they can become docile, if your looking for your first snake a ball python are very docile and a great snake to start with!

Yer they are a little more nippy than a ball, but as long as you buy a young one and handle it pretty often (not too often though) then it should be fine. If you want this snake as a pet then I suppose it all depends what sort of snake you would like to have the most. Balls are slower and a lot more docile but can be kinda boring when you handle them, where a JCP will be a lot more active and climb around on you a bit more. Can also be a bit of a handful sometimes!! Well thats my experience anyway. Im sure others will give you some more opinions.

If you're looking for a fairly docile snake for your first snake, carpets might not be the way to go. They CAN be docile, but they're a lot more likely to have at least a little bit of attitude, especially as babies.... and some never outgrow that. A lot of them will calm down fairly well with regular handling as babies though :) Personally, I've found that my JCPs have stayed pretty nippy, even as they've grown -- but my IJ has been a total sweetheart, ever since he was a baby. So if you're looking for a more docile carpet, an IJ might be a better choice for you.
Hope that helps a bit :)

I disagree a bit with Jen, if you handle them when their young the will be as reliable as any ball. From time to time you may come upon some that won't calm but for the most part they will. Thats just what I have found.
p.s. some ball pythons can be nippy as well.
I have 1 Coastal and 1 Jungle. The Coastal has become quite aggressive and the Jungle has never bitten. I would say that a Jungle would be a good starter snake. If you become a true enthusiast, you will get bored with the docile ball python. Don't get me wrong, I have 2 and love them dearly, but their behavior is so predictable that I have some interest in them over time.

I have found Jungles to be the NIPPIEST of babies, but the most trustworthy as adults of the three. However, Bredl's and Diamonds are FAR more docile than all three combined.
I would go for the look you like the best, ot which one if the most tameable. I would get a dog if that's what I was looking for. ;) J/K

Mines still a young'n and likes to take shots at me. But that's mostly when Im takin her outta her cage. And even if she does get a bite, its only ever drawn good blood once.
