Hey All, here is a pic of a contraption I made to help keep the humidity up, and air fresh in my Viv. I seen something like this on-line but could not find one in the pet stores, so I made one.
Total cost was like $12.00 including the air pump.
Hope this will help some of you.
Shawn
That is awsome,i have been trying to figure out how to do something like that. Can u post the materials used and directions on how you set it up??

If you are using it for smaller applications (other than boa keeping), I would bet that this single bottle could be shared between a few small tanks, through a gang valve.
Is the tubing bubbling straight into the water, or is there an airstone?
Good work.

Okay sorry for the short first post, I was rushed at lunch hour.
Materials are:
Air pump for aquarium $9.99
Air line and "couplings" $1.99 Pet store
Foam or Cotton Baton Free (Scrounged)
Air Stone Free (Left over from fish tank)
Water Bottle or 2L pop bottle Free
Okay,
I drilled 2 appropriate sized holes in the water bottle lid to fit the couplers in (2) then;
I glued the couplers in with crazy glue gel to get a quick seal and dried it with hair dryer because I am impatient, then rinsed under cold water a minute or two;
I inserted the air stone with a length of tubing 2-3 inches longer than the height of the bottle keeping the extra outside the bottle;
Holding the end of the tubing, I pushed the foam or baton in the bottle keeping the air stone under the foam or baton;
Then fill the bottle with filtered/tap or distilled (best) water leaving 2 inches of air at the top;
Push the air hose end onto on of the couplers in the cap and screw the cap onto the bottle;
attach the air hose from the pump to the same coupler, as the air stone hose into the bottle;
Attach another air hose to the other coupler, which is open under the cap and put the other end into your Viv somewhere where it will distribute the "humid fresh air" semi evenly.
Keep in mind the new air will be room temperature so you may have to slightly adjust your heat. I think the benefits of a steady source of fresh air overcomes the minor heat adjustment.
Of course for a larger area I would use a larger water bottle and a bigger air pump, but my little one seems to be working fantastic.
ATM I am using a glass tank with a screen top, and my humidity inside is staying around 60% while my room humidity is less than 30%.
I will post another picture on a new thread because I can't figure out how to post multiple pics.
Shawn
I actually bought a small humidifier for the room that i keep my snakes in. Although it brought the humidity in the room up about 30% the tanks only raised about 5-10% because of the heating in the tanks. I am trying to find a way to pipe the humid air from the humidifier into the tank, but i think i am going to build one of the contraptions that you made. Thanx a lot for the directions.

boa68... ive seen a similat idea for what you wanna do.... if i can find it ill let u see the web page... he used the aluminum chimie duct sc\ucured it to the humidifer and pointed it into the iguana cage, he then put a cover inside the cage so the iguans wouldnt hurt themselves...
that is exactly wut i am thinking of, the only problem is that the air coming from a humidifier is cool. I am thinking of going out and getting a vaporizor which uses steam mist to put humidity in the air. This will help as a heating element also.

The foggers/steamers actually wet the tank, I have 2 Chinese Water Dragons with a steamer and the substrate is always soaked. I do have the steamer on a timer (2 hrs on-2 hrs off) as well so its not going 24/7. Maybe it would work though if you only had it on for 5-10 minutes every couple hours??
I did look at the misters, but I am too cheap to fork out $70 right now.
Lemme know how it works though, I may have to try something different when I go to the full size enclosures.
Shawn
Can you post a pic of the whole setup?Does the pump go in a seperate bowl of water besides there water dish?
I made two for my large enclosure. I have a hygrometer and it reads between 75-80% humidity coming out of the humidifiers, but it is doing absolutely nothing for the enclosure. I can't figure it out, the enclosure just won't hold humidity.

Straight into the water dish, seems to work fine for me
