LOL, ok now I know I have herp fever.

I am sitting here, watching the movie Crocodile Dundee, a movie that I have not seen in years and one I remember really liking.

Now, after becoming a reptile fan all I can think of while watching this movie is that Mick is a poacher, kills a snake and Croc and roasts an Iguana.

LOL I catch myself wondering what the Croc Hunter would think of a guy like Mick.

LOL ok I just got of the night shift and I think I am losing it.

Anyone else find that they get pissed of whenever they see herp killing or propraganda on TV?

thanks

Naturally Zhak!
But unfortunately it happens so we all do the best we can!
As for the croc hunter do you think he is any better?
Think about all the times he asks a snake etc if it is Grumpy Mate?
Jee wouldnt you be too if you had to go through 15 takes just for him to get it right? He is the one bugging the **** out of them for what ? MONEY!

Yeah, but what does Steve Irwin do with all that money? He builds the biggest zoo in Australia and buys up land for conservation. I wouldn't call those bad things would you?

yes jeff and what happens with that zoo of his?? he makes moore money. yes it is good that he has built conservations but we all know that Australia is the hardest to import out of so he didnt have that hard of a problem in the first place. he is good for a laugh and some education but the whole bit of his hunting is set most of the time. pay attention next time and you will see.
yes lisa at least dundee eats what he kills lol. it is customary in alot of countries to eat snake and lizards amongst other things and who are we to judge heck they might think we are crazy for eating deer, ground hog, bear, moose, frogs legs and yes some people here eat snake as well!

Christina,

I dont understand why making money HAS to be considered evil or a great flaw.

So steve makes money from the Zoo. If it was a not-for-profit venture then he could not possibly have made it into such a success. As for goverment grants for non-profit animal rehab, well it is like trying to milk a stone..very hard to do.

IMHO steve is providing a wonderful service, he is educating people that reptiles do not have to be feared, just respected. He is opening herperculture to the mainstream public and is winning the public over. That herpers are not freaks and that there is beauty even in if it is cold blooded.

If he is doing all this AND making a living then great for him. If his zoo was the reptile eqivent of a puppy-mill then I would be concerned, but so far I have only heard great things about it.

My ONLY major problem with Steve is that I REALLY WANT HIS JOB!!!

Christina, I don't mean to pick on you for a simple comment but...

Why does everyone react like it's a crime to make a lot of money??? If you were offered 3.5 million a year to do what you love most, would you turn it down? Just be honest with your self and figure out what you'd do. There probably wouldn't be many of us that would say "...um, no thanks. I'll stick with $40'000 a year. I'm not a fan of money."

The whole Steve Irwin thing was already beaten to death a couple of times in these threads. Some of us like him, and some of us don't. That's cool. It just always gets to me when people criticize the amount of money that these "celebrities" make. Heck, there are probably 2 billion people in the world that would think $40'000 a year is too much for one person to make a year.

Just a thought. No hard feelings, I hope.:)

OH LOL
No hard feelings taken from any of you!
I love to take the other side of the fence sometimes to get things going once and awhile it is good to get the mind rolling :)
As for the money thing I dont care about money lol. It just feels that he has gotten more FLASHIER as time goes on I like to sit and watch alot of his older segments when it was more basic, lots of info and none of the extras.
Herp keeping is an awesome venture in itself and we love it Steve Irwin loves it and kudos to him.

Yeah, he has changed a bit now that you mention it. Less informative and more bravado. I like the older episodes better. But now they have more money to go to other places like N. America and Africa, etc etc. :D
