View Full Version : Meds did nothing. Back to the vet
Well my male Gray Banded King has had ten days of oral anti-biotics.
His swelling is exactly the same as before. Not smaller, not bigger. He is still active, thermoregulates, etc.
I am making another appointment. I am totally unsure what's going on now. Just an update though.

Sorry to hear that it has not responded. How did the vet establish that it was a fluid buildup and not an abscess or tumor?? Did they do a needle aspirate or was the diagnosis of pneumonia based on lung sounds? A mass like that could certainly interfere with respiration and alter lung sound just by compression, even if it was not a primary respiratory infection. Any bloodwork done on him?
Definitely interested in knowing what happens with him - thanks for the update and best of luck with the next visit. Hope the female is doing better too.

when you press on it does it actually bother him?
Hi guys.
Mary- I am not exactly sure how he decided it was fluid, but he did x-rays and listened to his lungs quite a bit. No bloodwork, but the vet said the first thing will be bloodwork if we have to bring him back. I believe the vet isn't as concerned because of the snakes behaviour, he acts perfectly healthy. No mucus, no sluggish behaviour, etc.
Beardieguy- I haven't pressed on it hard, but I have definitly felt it. It never seemed to bother him.
What I am most worried about now is the level of stress this is causing the snake. He has become increasingly aggitated by us each night when it's time for medication, obviously stressed by our presence because he knows what's coming. Each night he seemed more and more stressed.
I don't know if this is a mistake or not, but I am allowing the snake a full week of rest and total alone time with no handling before making the next appointment. The vet doesn't see a huge problem with this.
I am worried it's a parasite or some odd infection, but that's just my mind running with me. I LOVE this guy, (his name his Hank BTW after Hank Hill)
His "wife" Uma's mouth is almost 100% clear now of mouth rot, that IS some good news. And she looks mighty hungry. :D

I had a haitian that was like that. It looked like a boil. He would not eat forever. Doc said it was fluid. Finally did blood work and can out to be a flat worm. No wonder the guy did not eat..
That was my scenario
OMG that's terrible. A flat worm? *shudder*
O.k. that thought alone makes me tell Hank tough crap, you are putting up with more poking. Maybe I will make an earlier appointment.

Sorry to hear the meds didn't do anything!
Hopefully, it's not some icky parasite.
Best of luck Marisa. Hang in there.
