hi people i jsut want to know how many Crickets do i feed a 5 months old gecko and how many time a week is normal thanz ;)

You should offer crickets every other day. Give about 5-6 to start and if the gecko eats them right away offer a few more. If the gecko still gobbles them up you can keep adding a couple until it is full and loses interest.:D

I use a 15 gallon as a feeding tank and I dump in about 30 crickets (but I also had 6 leopards in there to feed. I'd just keep adding batches of 30 or so 3 week or 4 week old crickets till everyone was stuffed, then put them back in their tank and started feeding the next set of geckos to feed)

At 5 months I was still feeding mine everyday, but mine were all little piggies. I guess my rule of thumb is feed them everyday till they won't eat everyday consistantly..??? LOL

Mine started eating every second day at about 7 months roughly I think..but sometimes they will still accept a superworm or two the next day after I've fed them.

I hope you don't take this wrong, but do you have a good reference manual on leopard geckos? After reading your posts, I'm beginning to think you should get one, such as The Leopard Gecko manual, and read it carefully. A lot of the questions you are asking are very basic, even a good caresheet would have answered them for you. I'm not suggesting you don't post your questions, I'm saying you really need to have a good written source of advice to refer to besides a forum.

yea I agree, you should look around (there are plenty of them out there, care sheets that is) I looked for a few days and read many care sheets, taking what info I saw was repeated everywhere as legit.

But I enjoy posting anyways (lol I like to spam) so to answer your question, I used to drop mealworms infront of my leo, if you have only 1 maybe only drop 3 at a time, and use tweasers to make sure the little worms don't get away and hide somewhere, Waxworms and Mealworms can pupate and turn into moths and beetles so be aware!! I personally don't feel like having them running around my Leo's tank, hence why I bought a feeder tank.

I just kept droping them infront of them until they were full. I fed mealworms for quite a while, but they slowly lost interest in them, so I switched to Superworms when they got big enough to crunch them down. I waited till they were about 7-8" in length before I ventured trying to feed them Supers, but I only gave them 1, maybe 2 for a long time, until I was sure they were big enough. I did that to ensure proper digestion was taking place.

A good treat once in a while is Silkworms if your Local petstore has them available (but I guess you could order them online too, I just buy local cuzI only buy a few as treats occasionally due to the cost of them)

Waxworms and Butterworms are a much liked treat too, but are fattening. I feed my females these once a week and let them eat a buch to keep their weight up when gravid with eggs. (silks are good for that too)

My 1 Male Leo will not touch either mealworms or Superworms, but absolutely goes nuts for Waxworms and eats Silkworms too.
Whereas the other male Leo loves SUpers and Waxworms and Silkies alot. Bigger the meal the more he likes it LOL

I have yet to try pinkies, but I hear that they're a good, very occasional treat too.

Well I think I am off to go buy some Waxworms today and give my Leo's a nice treat (even my Salamander loves Waxworms!)

Oh yea there are Kingworms too, kindof inbetween both Mealies and Supers....I think there may be even 1 more size too...

Yea your best bet is figure out how many they eat. If your guy is eating 10 crickets, put 15 in the tank, so that he has snacks for later. Experiment and see what their tastes are too. Try letting them eat their fill of crickets and give them 1 waxworm (they most likely will eat it even if they are full LOL) It's a good way to get thinner geckos or finiky eaters to bulk up a bit more.

Another reason why I feed 4 week old crickets is that their shells are not as hard to digest as adult crickets. Plus you only have the occasional couple that make noise, not all of them LOL (I buy 500 to 700 crickets at a time, so 500 adults...will drive you nuts no matter what LOL)

Yea I've had my orders screwed up 3 times.....500 adult crickets.....took me three times as long to get rid of them all, so for about 1-2 months all I listened to was crickets day and night. NOT amusing at all!!

All my tanks and whatnot are in my Livingroom (I live in a 1 bedroom apartment) but you can hear the crickets all throughout my place, even if it was just 1 or 2 LOL So when you have 20 or 30 making noise, closing doors does nothing LOL

You get used to the crickets after a few years, they will always escape from you! Feed as much as your gecko will eat, I put worms in a dish every night 2.
