Retics, of course. It's already accepted as common sense among herpers: Retics and
King cobras are the smartest snakes.

Just curious, how do you judge how smart a snake is?

Reticsrule

sidewinder: i would say how it reacts to its surrounding

I thought Retics, Burms, 'Condas and Afrocks were the only giants...whats a Scrub Python and are they the same size as like Burms and stuff?

Scrub pythons, or Amythestine pythons are the largest of the Australian Pythons (I believe this is a correct statement, someone correct if I'm wrong). They can reach lengths of 20+ feet, but their girth stays relatively thin as compared to other species that can reach such lengths, probably due more to their Arboreal tendencies. They seem to be gaining popularity in the trade.

Scrubs, Morelia amethistina, are from australia. They are semi arboreal and supposedely can get to lengths of 20 feet but are very thin bodied snakes.

I was watching this whole show, with Austin Stevens. It was a great episode and he found one that was about 16 feet id say. They are pretty huge for a semi arboreal snake. To see such a long snake in a tree is pretty amazing.

The scientific name was changed to Liasis amethistina, i think.

I would say King Cobras. Pythons and boas seem to be pretty low on the evolutionary ladder.

King cobras seem to have more intelligence about them than other snakes it seems (nest building, territorial, better eyesight than most snakes)

Cool! I gotta check 'em out! :D

EDIT: The Scrub Pythons I mean...

Really?? They do look more like other Liasis species rather than the other Morelia.....when did that change?? That's the first i've heard of it is all.

No they are still classified Morelia amethistina

liasis have body scales with 1 or 2 apical pits that are absent in morelia

There is still some debate going on over this as with the Papuan Python being Apodora papuana or Liasis papuanas

But as of yet it is still classified morelia

There is no debate with Papuans... they are Apodora Papuanas, and have been for some time.

They are also by far the most intelligent snakes I've ever worked with. Their alertness is just amazing, and their ability to figure out how to escape their environment is mind boggling.

Papuans are Apodora for sure.
Scrubs are many times called Morelia and others Liasis. The debate goes on.
But while most american or european herpetologists are with "Morelia", i've seen a tendency, lately, for australian scientists to go with Liasis. (since they have home advantage, i'll give them a little credit here, hehe).

Like in this website, for example:

I agree Papuans are Apodora, I was just mentioning this because there now the same debate going on. (which happens to be from the same website in the above post).
