Ok, I just bought this Leo from some guy (actually 3 LOL) and 2 of them unfortunately had lost their tails (before he got them supposedly) All are supposed to be females, but I kinda am not so sure about that. What do you all think??

I am pretty sure its a female, just because it looks like its gravid an appears to have 2 eggs brewing...but the look of the scales between the legs looks like a male.....am I just crazy?? or does it have nads??

Does look like she's got eggs. I can't see any pores that are a dead give away for males. Some feamale do puff out a bit, so it looks like they have slight bulges. I'd say a female for sure.

Thats whats throwing me off a bit, because when I lift their tails, they look like they have bulges that only males have lol

Here's a pic I just took. Apparently the guy got it from a petstore that got them from someone that was rather abusive/negligent with his geckos. He didn't feed them and they all ate eachothers tails. I guess most of them were all scarred up from fighting really bad and she was in the best condition, tail being the only real damage. He said that you could actually see the bone in her tail it was so bad. I guess I'm a big softie LOL

Here's the second gecko. The abdominal markings look very similar.

Same as the other one, has lost "her" (LOL) tail too. Her tail is alot more abnormal.

Here's a pic of the sceond gecko. Like I said, her tail is not exactly "normal" by any means. The first gecko's tail kept a semi-original pattern. Hers is not LOL but I think shes neat. A real shame too because she has such a nice stripe down the middle of her back.

They look female to me (specially the gravid one ;)

Just to make it easy to compare check these pictures. You can see the male is very easy to tell once mature.

I've seen a lot of female leos that were assumed to be male just by the 'bulges' some of them have, so I included this last picture of a female who could be mistaken for a male. This particular female is a blizzard who for some reason seem to develop fair sized 'bulges' quite regularly. The lack of pores makes it easy to tell she's female.

So, i guess you've figured by now that you have 2 girls:D Better have the incubator up and running! And, when you feel you have mastered sexing leo's, just wait until you try African Fat Tail jeuvies.......

I've decided to cheat now when I'm sexing AFTs regardless of what age they are when I get them. If I don't find eggs after 2 years, I'll assume it's male.
 ;)

I think their tails are cute:D Something i started a while ago when sexing leo's or fatties is to place them onto a glass plate, and view the underparts with them up above my head. Of course, you must be aware of the gecko's position on that plate at all times....the point being, one should not attempt to sex a gecko with the tail in a flexed position. Quite misleading. Really.

I actually use a 3mm piece of glass suspoended between 2 TV trays. I setup my 5MP Digital camera on a tiny tripod underneath and place the gecko on the glass under a cardboard tube with black lining (to get best pic). Works well for me, although sometimes it takes a few shots adjusting for light absorption, glare, ect.

The problem is trying to sex a Leo at about 8-9 months age. Should be developed enough to tell, but small enough to make very difficult sometimes LOL and when you have 6 together it could turn into a bad situation very fast if your wrong....
