The best voices for any metal bands have to be Chris Barnes (formerly of Cannibal Corpse), Corpsegrinder (currently of Cannibal Corpse), and the singer who just left Gore Rotted (I cannot remember his name at the moment).
Still... it all comes back to King Diamond (from Mercyful Fate as well as some solo stuff). He can really hit those high notes. Buddy from Cradle of Filth deserves an honourable mention as well. He does an incredible job at sounding like some sort of goblin.
'cannibal corpse?' corpsegrinder? and 'gore rotted?
!!!!

I love Daniel Johns (silverchair)voice :D
Matthew Bellamy (Muse) has a great voice, it just always makes me sad when I hear it!
Finally I think Gerard Way (My chemical romance) has a great voice too!
There are also some others that have already been said, like Chester Bennington, and I'm sure I can't remember my favorite voice but, nevermind! :D

Steven Tyler is soooo good.
Steven Tyler blec. what do you guys hear in that voice?
I was going to ask you the same thing about Bob Dylan's voice.
aw man, you guys are just babies--I feel so old around here.
I love Jim Morrison's voice too.
Elvis Costello
Andy Partridge
Sting
Bob Marley
Peter Tosh
Kurt Cobain
sorry, but I've never liked Steven Tyler--have sort of an aversion to him and have felt for a long LONG time. Maybe it's those ugly sloppy lips? Or the way he dances? He's got a beautiful, talented daughter though.
But hey, if you guys like him---cool enough. Lot's of folks do.
As for Bob Dylan---he's just cool period.
HeatherRose
01-12-05, 03:32 PM
Yeah, but it's 'best male voice', not 'least ugly sloppy lips and best dancer."
Cobain had a good voice???? Hmmmm, If that's the the case, im nominating Eddie Vedder..
-Matt
I was trying to think of some ~other~ possible talent from Steven Tyler..... definately not his voice. Nope no talent, sorry.
Listen to MTV''s Nirvana Unplugged. Boy had an exceptional voice. Too bad he had to go and blow his brains out.
Oh and dude from Jane's Addiction ---Perry Farrell

Speaking of Kurt...
The big question is: did he REALLY kill himself?
These pieces of evidence really made me think...If they are myths plz correct it.
1) There were 3 shells in the shotgun, if he was going to kill himself, wouldn't he only put 1?
2) Courtney offered a Hitman 50,000 where she said blast his head off even though he thought she was kidding.
3) The heroine in his body was too much for him to do anything like put his needle away and finish the suicide note and shoot himself.

Kurt had a really good voice. Doesn't quite fit in with the preferences I have seen so far, but my favorite male singer is Michael Stipe. Tommy James. Mick Jagger.

Just read through the thread, and thought I'd make a few comments.
My favorites, tied for 1st place are Bon Scott and Brian Johnson - but of course I'm biased.
Brian Johnson just lent his voice to a new video game called "call of duty, finest hour" - and is a WWII drill sargant. He should do a good job. Bon has one of those voices that not everyone likes (but same with Brian Johnson, I guess) - but he is much better than Neil Young, but than so am I, and so is the dog.
One person I think has been overlooked as I didn't see him mentioned is Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson. That guy has one of the best singing voices ever - and can do any kind of singing and is acclaimed for doing so, but really brought some talent to heavy metal in the 80's. Songs like Run to the Hills and many others would not be as great og songs without his voice.
Axle Rose had a good voice. And I've always liked the lead singer of Jackyl, such a shrill voice. He and Brian Johsnon teamed up to do a song called Locked and Loaded - if you've never heard it, download it now - those 2 voices together are amazing, you have to agree, even if you don't appreciate that kind of voice.

I really do have a twisted sense of humour, and that wasn't even a funny joke.. suicide reference aside, it's just... plain not funny.

Cool, do you know what it's called? I'd love to give it a read.
I don't find anything funny about someone dieing...I have a lot of respect for his music and if you did too, you wouldn't be making a joke about it. That's just my 0.8436463 cents.

I have known people who killed themselves, and I still found it funny (the lyric reference part). It is called gallows humor, and it is actually more common among people with a lot of first-hand experience with death. It's a psychological crutch, used to distance youself from an overwhelming situation. So don't hate the morbid people who didn't get outraged, just pity us for being so screwed up... or whatever it is you need to do to move on.
You guys are acting like high school kids fighting about who likes what. It's ridiculous.
