New addition to the household...

First off, Hello. New guy checkin in to the forum.

Secondly, I will have some photos tomorrow of the new Columbian Boa (Bci) I just brought home today. Its healthy, mellow, and eating medium adult rats. It is 14 months old, and an absolute beauty.

Hope I can rely on you folks for some specific answers.

Welcome to ssnakess and..... Beautiful snake... looks nice and fat!

It's hard to tell from the pics so forgive me if you already have them....
Make sure you get your snake a few hides. (at least one for the hot side and one for the cool side.)
I saw one thermometer... ideally you should have two one on each side placed about 1' about the substrate.
Make sure you have a hygrometer as well

Hey thanks for the tips. Actually here is the "temporary" setup. This temp tank till Thursday, has the following. One digital Therm/Hygrometer that records the cool side. One Big Apple Herp Thermostat that watches the hot side. Under tank heater and a 150W Black Bulb for basking heat. 1.5" of Aspen substrate, 5 qt. bowl, 2 terra cotta 8" hide boxes(soaked) and a glass top. I am currently building an enclosure for the Boa, and have only a few things left to finish. Then he will be in his new home.

The bigger enclosure is as follows: 6'(L) x 30"(D) x 30"(H). I would make it larger, but any bigger and it won't fit out the doorway of my house if it needs to ever move. Flexwatt 11" for hot side floor, with 75W CHE above. Rope lighting around entire enclosure. Fogger/misting pool on timer. Heating on Big Apple Thermostat, and lighting on a 10 hour cycle.

I will post some pics soon on the enclosure, hopefully it turns out as well as planned.

Terra Cotta pots, if soaked in water for about 25 minutes, can increase the humidity levels in the tank about 5% for about 8-10 hours. They hold alot of moisture, without flowing water all over the place. Just a little extra insurance in humidity control. I wanted to cause as little stress as possible in the "short-time" home for the Boa.
